Hello! Which hull?
 

Hi! I make all my boat hulls, and I am going to get a 700 motor and 12-16 2000mah AA batterys for christmas. Which hull should I use? I want them to go really fast. Which prop too? I have 2 good ones.
In this post, pics are attached of my outrigger. The pictures taken in the water are with a 6 cell 1800mah battery pack and a ungeared 540, with the prop shown.

Bother. I forgot to attach the images. so, here they are. the prop is 3 blade, and the same size as a 10p coin

And, here is the other boat. It is big enough (hopefully) to cary as many AA cells as I want. I have used it and it floats high in the water and is very stale. Here are the pics. The prop is 3.5cm in diameter, and has 2 blades.

Don't order those AA batteries! They're not good enough for what you want to do with them. Pick up some GP3300, GP3700, or IB3800's. They're all right around the same price, the 3300's the least expensive.

Onto your rigger: You have it setup for subsurface drive, which won't do. Riggers are hydroplanes, you need a surface drive on there with the rudder off of the back of the hull, not out of the bottom. You gotta let that thing air out! Your prop looks like it's chewed up and is probably very inefficient.

I'm not sure what a good prop would be for a 700 in a rigger.

GP3300... OK - i found 6 for £32! I was looking at 12 AAs for £15!

Apart from that, is all the outrigger needs is a new, surface piercing prop, and a new rudder out the back?

If you're going to run the 700, you should run at least 12 cells. Just a guess on prop size might be an X645.

You really should have an adjustable strut and offset rudder. Riggers can be tough to set up and much of the adjustments come from strut and rudder angles.

Like mentioned above, you want Sub C Cells, not AA Cells! The AA's can't handle the current drain of a high performance 700 motor. You would destroy them in a hurry and not get good performance doing so.

Would the 2 set-ups work? Sure they would. Would they really perform? No.

I would focus on the outrigger. Switch it to surface drive with the rear mounted rudder, get the 700BB motor and a speed control that can handle it, get 16 SC (Sub C like the IB3800's) cells and let her rip. This setup has much more potential than the V-hull. The V-hull looks to me like a displacement hull - which will never plane (Meant to go slow like a tug boat).

Well, I have hardly any budget. I can afford a 700 motor and a good prop, and rechargeable AA 2400mah batterys, as they can also be used for other things. But there, by budget runs low. I Can't really afford super battery's. Here is a boat I found on the net: http://www.finedesignrc.com/evsetup.asp

The specs:

Hull: FDM Turbo-Vee 29” ABS mono-hull (I could make a 29" ish V hull)
Motor: FDM Cordite 775 11 Turn Ferrite (commonly called 8.4 v Speed 700 BB)(I can get one of those)
Hardware: Fine Design c/w trim tabs and turn fins (What are trim tabs? Im sure I could put them in)
Shaft: Octura 0.130” flex and Octura Flex hex (How much difference will that make/ I would use my current prop shaft)
Propeller: Octura X645 (What I think I'll buy)
Speed Control: Astroflight 212D (using BEC) ( (I would use a servo and microswitch)
Power: 12 Sanyo RC 2400s in two 6-cell pack configuration (12 AAs (2400s) in two 6-pack configurations)

dudw no matter what you need to stick to one thing(EG the out rigger is the best bet) ok now you need to get a rechargable battery 7.2 volt stick pac at a hobby shop thay go for like 15 bucks or less then get the charger and you will be set then the 700 motor

ok this is what you do take the drive shat so that it is "almost" level with the hull and the prop need to be like 1-2 inches away from the back then get somthing to mount on the back of your boat that is about 1/2 inches away from the prop and mount the rudder then get the servo arm out the back to conect to the rudder

i now this isnt fancy but it seems to me that you are on a buddget so this is the best way for it unless you can find the funds else wear!!!!!

I have a 7.2V 1800mah rechargeable pack, but as you can see the 540 motor doesn't go very fsat

oh i have to agree with you on that but still by the pic u have of it with it running it looks like it is walking pace and a 540 on a good 7.2 volt will still move you a lot faster than walking pace if (greese the drive shaft and surface drive

I guess it is that slow because of the prop. Should i use the attached prop (surface drive) on the outrigger?

yess the prop has a big diffrence on your boat the firt 3 bladed prop will not work on a 54o motor it does not have the right pitch on it and its big ( i think) the 2 bladed prop is the best bet and when you put the surface drive on the boat if the boat is sitting in the water you should be able to see the prop and some of the driveshaft

ok well first the prop will bee under water completly when the boat is movin and when it is on plane the prop will be at the 1 or 3 mark

okok look this is a fully modifyed boat and the rudder nad stuff is expence so dont mind that look at the possition of the prop if you see the white graphics at the bottom of the graphis is where the water sline is ( now i no this is a deep vee but kinda the same prinaple ) and when the boat is on plane the water is covering 3/4 of the prop

the prop need to be out the back of the boat the rudder needs to be behind it and the prop need to be JUST un the water line so that when the boat moves the prop will be half in the water and half out of the water

Ok - I am just wondering if the transom will plane. would it hurt to have the prop a tiny bit out the water at no speed?

ok the transom is the back of the boat ( so no the transom wont plane ) but the whole boat will. the problem is if you said that the back end dosnt lift up that is because od the way the prop is set up( so no worries) and it would hurt if the prop is a little out of the water bacause if the boat planes the boat lifts out of the water and there for 1/4 of the prop is not in the water and the boat will porpous and not go at a significant speed any more Question im am now intrested of how the boat turns out so keep emm comeing LOL
