electric rigger
 

i built this thing to see if i could, but havent finished it. i was initially going to going to make it a straight shaft submerged drive, but i am having second thoughts. should i finish it and change it to surface drive,cut down the freeboard to lighten it, add rear ridepads, and narrow the front sponsons, or buy plans and build a proven design? ill try to post up pics.

you could make it a ship wreck at the bottom of a large fish tank (haha)

i would try to make every think longer and less crazy angles
there are preditor plans if you want them ?

I built a rigger last month off the predator plans and this is what I ended up with.

I downloaded the plans off the internet, burned them on a disk, and took them to a local blueprinting shop. They cost like $1.50 a sheet! So needless to say its not going to be the last.
I did have trouble with the sponsons but after a couple of tries they turned out good. If you dont want to cut the sponsons yourself both Blew by you boats and Climate boatworks both have sponson repair kits that come with everything you need to build sponsons that will fit this rigger and are race proven shapes. The climate sponsons are all wood while the bby sponsons are plastic. They dont offer them on there website but just email them for a price.

i have done some stuff for climate models ( peter) like test his boats but nostly osborn products , and over all, his best one, seemed to be the preditor , but now that it isnt in production any more, u cant buy it , but the new best is his blizzard !
il try to get a pic of my modded preditor i changed it up a but and i am getting about 2 more mph with the same set up then

just click on the boats on the side. You can also buy a good variaty of laser cut kits from him, plus running hardware. I never built one considering this is the first boat i've ever built, but I hear they are a dream to put together and run. Someday. I like the looks of the sport hydro;), maybe it will run good against my bros h&m viper!! Anyway you can download the plans from him for under a buck.
They are well worth it and thank you for the plans climate:)

sure i got a lil bit ahead of myself building this thing with no plans or prior knowledge of building riggers or hydros, do you guys think itll plane out? think the skeg will cause too much cavitation?hmmm, are the sponsons too flat and wide? too much contact with the water?if i put 3/8" shoes on the back, it would effectively be surface drive when on plane, but it being straight shaft, the thrust angle would be pointed down a few degrees..

as i said i have no prior knowledge in building rc boats at all, but plans is definatly the way to go. Alot of the angles are right there and already proven to work very well, plus they are very important. Also having hardware that has an adjustable strut is a must. I have the plans too if you want them. Most blueprint places print the plans in the pdf format they are in, or to can look at them on your computer to get a good idea of a proper rigger. Also you can see what wood to use, mine is 1/8 hardwood and 1/32 and 3/32 liteply.
