what is your MV set to . some times you can have them set to low and you will not get them to peak , you have to have them abouve 5 to get them to top up . and a regualr 7.2 volt batterys will some times go more then the MAH and will end at about 8.5 or 9 volts , it is normal

Has anyone had any luck running the spetacularly cheap Tenergy batteries from all-battery.com? I have 4 packs of 3500mah on the way, they were only $50 for all 4! I've seen pretty good reviews of them from other people, but I wonder what they'll do in the SV27.

On the topic of IB batteries, here's a pic of the IB 3600 packs I ran the day my motor fried. They were brand new stick packs on their first charge. I knew the puny tabs connecting them might get a little warm, but this is ridiculous. Those packs had a hell of a punch, I'm sure the extra voltage they dumped out was part or the reason the motor got so hot. Imagine what 7 cell IB packs would have done!

I have since soldered them into side by side packs with deans bars, and heavier gauge wire.

That is probably the best justification for upgrading to Deans 12g wire and real connector bars on your packs.

Rooski[sm=thumbup.gif];) That is exactly why I don't like stick packs. I always run flat side by side packs with good battery bars and 12awg wires and deans connectors. Especially on high amp draw applications.
PS aren't those the intellect cells? I didn't know those were the IB cells

YEp, those are Intellect IB 4200 Cells

RE: SV27 Battery Thread

Wait a minute. I was under the impression that Intellect Battery cells were IB cells. I don't think they are. IB 4200's are made by Epic. They have a white label with IB in big black letters.

Either way, those Intellect 3600's had all the power I need...the boat just flew with them.

So the touchy IB 4200's you guys are talking about are not Intellect cells right? In other words, I don't have to tiptoe around while charging these.

I do stand corrected. Your are 3600's. The ones on Steven site how ever are IB 4200's I really don't hink it make a differance but they are really nice cells

RE: SV27 Battery Thread

Yeh, I charge them w/ peak cutoff set to 50mv. All three packs do it. And actually I have one set of DTX3800s that will only charge to 8.92v max, while the others slowly went up to 9.17v (all 3 sets are the same age as far as use). Last night, one pack (a 8.92v max charge) fried on me after 2 minutes of run time (the other pack that was 8.92 finally hit 9.05v after topping them off before hitting the lake). The cell fried. I think that's where the prob was; that cell was giving me the lower v. Anywho, I order 2 4500s and another DTX3800 to replace the bad pack. I'll keep the other cells from that pack, provided VIR checks out.

Thanks.

Sounds like cheap battery problems. I don't think its your charger. But then again, that charger is kind of new on the market and it could have its own issues.

Blackjack52 10-11-2006 07:59 PM

RE: SV27 Battery Thread

I don't think it's the charger either....it's just real sensitive. I checked what was left of the cells and one other one that hadn't fried was way off on v/I. The first cell just had enough. What are the odds of 2 bad cells in an unmatched pack from DTX? Again, new to niMh packs, have you heard any bad about DTX?

I ordered the 6 cell 4500s this morning. Don't want to go to 14s, stay with 12s, since I have my numbers and cg figured.

I also bought 14cells of these new 4500's. They should arrive Sat or Monday.

I will be building them side/side with bars and 12ga leads.

I use Astroflite 112D chargers $130. I charge my 4x 6c-GP3300's at the same time @50min at 4.5A.

Breaking them in:
1- Slow charge @2A until peaked, wait 2 hrs then discharged @1.5A down to 0.90v/cell. Then wait 60 minutes.
2- Slow charge @2A until peaked, wait 2 hrs then discharged @1.5A down to 0.90v/cell. Then wait 60 minutes.
3- Slow charge @3.5 A until peaked, wait 2 hrs then discharged @1.5A down to 0.90v/cell. Then wait 60 minutes.
4- Slow charge @4.5 A until peaked, wait 2 hrs then discharged @1.5A down to 0.90v/cell.

I will post the numbers after the initial 4 break-in cycles.

Then posting 10 "Real world numbers" gained in my SV27 with cooling mods and worked Prather Bronze 220 2-bladed prop.. Charge at 4.5A and run them twice a day, at least 2hrs between charging from 1st run.

They read as 3A slow/6A fast WOOT!!!!! Means low internal resistance= lots of power R-R-R [8D]

Making the packs after dinner......... and start the break-in process.

Enter Time warp [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

The break-in has started. This is 1st charge at 2A.

That is a NICE charger. I was looking for a better than average charger after being gone for a few years, and that one looks awesome! Forty cells off of 12v? Wow. Can you get it to cycle packs automatically?

Nope, buy a Trition2, or 2 would be great ... once they are in stock at TowerHobbies, I'll order 1 myself.

But I had the 112D from my airplane days, it's still a good buy at $130 and goes up to 8A&40cells:D

After 3 cycles it shows @4250mah average down to 0.90v/cell usable capacity. Will see if they wake up a little once they see 40-50A and 6A charges.

Once my Watt's Up meter arrives, I'll make an adjustable discharge system to do from 5A-50A.
