STV OPC
5 Attachment(s)
here is my custom STV style hydro.
its 32 inches long from bow to plate. tell me what you think. i have got a K&B 3.5 CC lower unit. it still need a bit of work to it to make it super light and very stream line. it will run as a 6 cell boat it is very light and pretty cool if i say so my self. Ryan . eat your heart out. Attachment 2239595Attachment 2239596Attachment 2239597Attachment 2239598Attachment 2239599 |
RE: STV OPC
It's way bigger than I originally thought. What does it weigh?
|
RE: STV OPC
That's awesome! The only thing I'd change is that black can over to a 3.5cc or a REAL engine. haha, good job man. Keep me updated on this project.
Finally, a real OB electric Ryan |
RE: STV OPC
That's not really considered a hydro is it. That's going to ride on it's tail. Did you design from scratch?
|
RE: STV OPC
i have no idea what it weighs.but it will balance out on a pack of my GP3300's
so i guess it weighs the same as a 6 cell pack of GP3300's yes there are no plans for it all built off balsa. it will be faster then a 3.5 CC any day i bet you. and if it's not then i will run 12 cells. |
RE: STV OPC
Haha, sure it will.
Has OPC electric tunnel on record ever pass 60mph yet? [>:] Ryan |
RE: STV OPC
nope but my ONC tunnel will.
after all my mono did. |
RE: STV OPC
Cool,
I believe the record for 3.5cc is around mid 60's. I seriously would dump the K&B prop shaft and go with the nitrowatersports rebuild kitt. The bushings K&B used are crap and wears out in less than 10 - 10 minute runs. SV27Dayton - no it's a semi-tunnel. Ryan |
RE: STV OPC
link me to it.

RE: STV OPC
Its a tunnel.

RE: STV OPC
Well Semi-Tunnel.

F1 Tunnels do not use center pods, or ski bottoms. The actual lifting part of the tunnel is relatively flat. Also, there is a nice Cowl that runs the entire length of the hull.
Big difference to a Tunnel Guy. [8D] Ryan |
RE: STV OPC
The cowl makes now difference to me. They put those on the 21 datona and stoker hull's (mod-VP) when they were used in OB racing. The F1 and 2's have about a 10 degree V underneath if I remember correctly. Never touches the water but it's not really that flat. Maybe we are splitting hairs, I guess I started it. Nobody's ever called mine a semi tunnel because of the center pod. Guess that's what I'll tell them from now on.
|
RE: STV OPC
I'm the only one splitting hairs. In the end a tunnel is still a tunnel regardless of the minor details.
I'll throw another point in. I don't even consider a hull a "Tunnel" if it does not have an Out Board engine. [X(] If it is inboard it's a cat. [X(] Ryan |
RE: STV OPC
That's about how I call them too. Although, what about a twin outboard cat/tunnel. I'm going with cat. I usually go with the way they run. To me, a tunnel should be loose on the straights with the nose up and sit flat in the turns and pop back up on the straight. ...and something like an outboard Skater would be somewhat loose in the straights and the turns, like the offshore cats.
I only speak from watching races on TV. My first tunnel (TS2 w/K&B 3.5) will be started this fall. Can't wait because I love those boats. By the way, Taylor, the hull looks sweet. STV is the fullsize manufacturer of that type hull? What is OPC |
RE: STV OPC
I'd have to see the twin. I'd call it a tunnel if it looks like the F1 in the photo above excepth with a couple 2.5's. :D
TS2 is an excellent hull. The stock K&B is very reliable but is pretty weak when compared to the O.S. We ended up starting threads on the 7.5/3.5, check them out for any setup help or tuning help. Good Luck. I thought OPC meant Outboard "P" class where Taylor's 6 cell setup would be ONC, "N" class. I'm probably way off on that as I don't follow the electric classes but it's a good guess. RE: STV OPC
OPC
is it outboard powered class ?? |
RE: STV OPC
It could be. I'm used to OMC/Johnson :)

hey ryan. that red and white stv is my dads old boat
128mph!! ORIGINAL: ryan_t888 F1 Tunnels do not use center pods, or ski bottoms. The actual lifting part of the tunnel is relatively flat. Also, there is a nice Cowl that runs the entire length of the hull. Big difference to a Tunnel Guy. [8D] Ryan |
RE: STV OPC
looks good taylor any updates
also here is some video. it gives info about how stv type bottoms should run how much of the hull is in the water etc http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t...Speed_0001.flv |
RE: STV OPC
128mph is rediculous. Especially for these river racers. I was in a Talon that could do just under 95mph and I thought it was pretty wild. I believe it's has to do with the open cock-pit. Makes the feeling seem a lot more "real."
Hopefully Taylor's STV does at least 25mph. HA [sm=bananahead.gif] Ryan |
RE: STV OPC
lol
lets hope it does.;) hey taylor are u gona put it like an f1 with a cock pit incosed or like a stv river rocket with it open? imo if u leave it open put like a board on top with graphics of seats and stuff. and if u wana rduce wind resitane put a nose cone in fron of the cowling (thats the yellow looking thing infron of the motor up on an angel) http://www.montyracing.com/gifs/ski.jpg |
RE: STV OPC
DONE and running. . . well sorta
so i have her all setup and damn she run great for just throwing her in the water she picked up nicely but was a little hard to drop on the pipe but it did after just sheer power. i never once completely opened it up because it would kite and flip over at literately 1/2 throttle. but at that speed it would be fairly competitive. i trimmed the motor and the batteries as far forward as i can but it will still lift. I flipped it 3 times in one run. when i put the power down from stand still it will pull right up to bow in the sky and then drop on plane like that. i need to keep the boat down. just to much lift. I am very happy with the boat it's awesome. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture686-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture685-1.jpg http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s...cture684-1.jpg |
