RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
[quote]ORIGINAL: srt10 It all depends on what batteries you are using.. If you go with 3s on the VXL 3500 you should be fine using a small prop.. but if you want to use 4s the kv of the motor is way to kigh for a boat, even on 2s it will have good rpm to run fast. ORIGINAL: Black0ut hey. I used to be into nitro powered stuff until i got my blade 400 heli that had a brush-less outrunner 420 motor in it. Electric motors these days are so advanced and powerful. so here is the scoop. I have a nitro vee. The local pond doesn;t like the Vee as it is very very loud. The pond is very close to my house, and i rather not drive around looking for a new one. Nitro engines also require lots of maintenance. It also doesnt go very fast. I would like to use a Velineon 3500 brushless power system as they came down in price to just over $150.00. I would like to use the same stock receiver found in the vee. It needs to be LiPo powered as well. Does anyone know how i could drive the propeller drive directly without off-setting the motor and using gears? I also need to mount the motor on the aluminum plate that comes with the boat... any ideas on mounting solutions? Anybody know of any other motors/ESC that are cheep and fast? People are telling me that this is too much power... but since when is too much power too much? I mean, i need to at least break the sound barrier. <br type= is this directed towards me or the originator of the thread? im going to use the mamba monster 2200 system no vxl for now anyway |
RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
Yours..
2200 on 6s is over 48000 rpm! you will wast the power and possibly rip things apart.. but on 3s or 4s is would be great! |

well i got alot done this weekend, havnt started testing yet but here are some update pics. i will get paint worked out after shes a runner.

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
looks good, let us know how it runs once you get it tested!

Wow, samich..............................what is that 24pinion and 32 spur............i've always wanted to stick my monster system in a boat (its in my 3905 now) But OMG.............................i think the min voltage for the monster sytem is 14.4v, you might want to check it..................you may need to go 4s, but gear down, have some mercy, BTW i am predicting that you will shred, destroy, liquify your u-drive on the first run, but i hope not. Keep us posted, i would love to see a vid.
P.S. - castle states that the monster 2200kv on 6s is equivalent to about 6 h.p. !!!!!! |

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
They could be overstating it some, but i'll tell you, they are EXTREMELY powerful, i run my e-maxx on 6s with the 2200 and i've broken lots of stuff on it, its mostly aluminum now, with steel shafts, but i cant think of another motor with more power for $150 bucks.:D

P.S. - castle states that the monster 2200kv on 6s is equivalent to about 6 h.p. !!!!!! its funny you say that, i took mine out of my 3905 for this project. my intent was to see how things go and determine if i should buy another mamba monster system or go with a 1/10th scale castle system. maybe around 4400kv on 2s. on a side note i try not to show any mercy to any of my rc's. as for the 6 hp on 6s i believe it. my emaxx will do backflips spinning big joe 40 series tires on 4s. on 6s it just starts breaking things. and its a 23/28 gear combo your looking at in the boat. i may go to a 18/28 depending on what happens during the first few test runs. as far as liquefying parts goes i have the castle link on my side. im going to program the esc's traction control feature so its not such a brutal hard start. honestly though the trx .15 marine is rated at something like .49hp. even if my mamba only made 1.5 or 2hp the performance of the boat would double if not triple. i was bored so i decided to mix it up alittle. after all thats what this hobby is all about. i should start testing this weekend, i will try to post a video if i can. i still haven't decided on a prop yet. i think im just going to buy a dozen different plastic ones and see how far i get. after i find a good one i will switch over to metal. |
RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
ya, that 2200 NEU MM motor is crazy!
as for the over rated 6hp, well..... NEU rates this motor at a constant 1500watts and peaks at 2500watts. I have seen someone with a data logger showing a half second peak at 3800watts! he over geared it on 6s to get that peak power and thats just over 5hp! nuts power 2hp contsant power is crazy, no need to get to full rpm to make that power with brushless motors.. the power is right now! My SV27 FE with a CF48 prop possibly puts out 800 peak watts and got me 41.3mph today.. so your setup is going to be crazy fast! http://i703.photobucket.com/albums/w...er2009/125.jpg |

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
you should get 50+ mph
I would'nt worry much about gearing just prop start with a small prop and work your way up checking temps every minute or so, and slow on the throttle |
RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
You could run an octura 447:D and the "monster" would barely get warm im guessin'.........................lets see, hmmmm, 27" vee, 5+/- h.p. brushless, 50,000rpms, 447 prop = 60-65 mph on glass?????? would you dare run a 450?????
P.S. - you beat me to this project, cuz i was gonna pull mine out of my 3905 to try it, but i was gonna go with a 72" vee i saw on e-bay, i'm very interested to see and hear about this..................i'm sorta livin' it thru you. |

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
i didnt post my build here to start any arguments, if you guys want to debate the actual hp number of the neu 2200 do it in pm's. we all know this motor/esc is entirely to much for the hull. lets leave it at that.
that being said, i will try to finish the paint and start testing by saturday/sunday. hopefully we will see a 50+ mph pass with the ol' girl |

When it comes to boats, care needs to be taken or people will be burining up their motors and esc due to someone saying the wrong thing.. boats pull alot of amps and can generate alot of heat if not done right I would love to see this boat run right and not burn up based on wrong info.. |
RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
I understand he needs to be careful setting up his boat, and i am not "arguing" with anyone i was simply making a statement of awe............like wow, Small boat with BIG motor, Real fast:D........thats all..................if i said the motor had 10,000 hp it wouldnt alter what it really has and it wouldnt have any influence on "burning up his esc" and im certain he's not going setup his electric boat based on some estimated HP figure that the manufacturer claimed anyway, i dont think anybody does that. Samich, i am excited to hear about your run this weekend!!!
