the Electric Nitro Vee mod
hey. I used to be into nitro powered stuff until i got my blade 400 heli that had abrush-lessoutrunner 420 motor in it. Electric motors these days are so advanced and powerful.
so here is the scoop. I have a nitro vee. The local pond doesn;t like the Vee as it is very very loud. The pond is very close to my house, and i rather not drive around looking for a new one. Nitro engines also require lots ofmaintenance. It also doesnt go very fast. I would like to use a Velineon 3500 brushless power system as they came down in price to just over $150.00. I would like to use the same stockreceiver found in the vee. It needs to be LiPo powered as well. Does anyone know how i could drive the propeller drive directly without off-setting the motor and using gears? I also need to mount the motor on the aluminum plate that comes with the boat... any ideas on mounting solutions? Anybody know of any other motors/ESC that are cheep and fast? People are telling me that this is too much power... but since when is too much power too much? I mean, i need to at leastbreak the sound barrier. <br type="_moz" /> |

I mean, i need to at leastbreak the sound barrier. im about to start the same project, as far as mounts for the motor im thinking that the villian mount will bolt right up to where the nitro vees stuffing tube mount goes. they use the same tube and share alot of other parts so i figured hey what the hell the single villain mount is only like 3 bucks. thats where im going to start. im also going to get the new upgraded prop shaft that uses a drive dog. now this is where it gets really interesting. you want to use a trx 3500 brushless and have been told its too much. i will be using a castle mamba monster 2200 on 6 cell lipo. im under the impression that im going to need a prop with a ton of pitch. i would really like to see this boat pass the 45mph mark. also i am going to stick with the villains gear drive mount setup. im just going to custom drill the centers out of a few pinions to fit the smaller trx pinions to my 5mm shaft in an effort to reach a 1.1 ratio or even a 1.2 ratio. either way this thing is going to be silly. i will post pics as i progress. have you made any attempts at modifying yours yet? <input type="hidden" id="gwProxy" /><!Session data><input type="hidden" id="jsProxy" onclick="jsCall();" /><div id="refHTML"></div><input type="hidden" id="gwProxy" /><!Session data><input type="hidden" onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" /><div id="refHTML"></div><input type="hidden" id="gwProxy"><!Session data></input><input type="hidden" id="jsProxy" onclick="jsCall();" /><div id="refHTML"></div> |

My goodness, samich, you're stickin a 2200kv mamba monster with 22.2 volts in a 27" , 3 lb boat? That thing will be stupid fast. i need to see that.

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
cat samich what tooth gears do you needto get a 1.1 or 1.2 gear ratio?

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
ORIGINAL: twoolley08 cat samich what tooth gears do you needto get a 1.1 or 1.2 gear ratio? that i am not sure about yet, im still waiting for the motor mount and spur gear to come from tower hobbies. i have to count the teeth on the spur in order to make my pinion selection. i couldnt find any info on how many teeth the spur gear was. but basically i just need a .32 pitch pinion with the same amount of teeth to get a 1.1 ratio. also i wanted to mention that i ment to write 1.2:1 not 1:2 i want to try to get as close to direct drive as i can to get started. the new villian ex mounts are adjustable but i dont know by how much. i used to have a villian that i could have used to help with this but i sold the darn thing a few months back. oh well, we will get her goin as soon as the parts get here. ups tracking says thursday to friday for delivery. on a side note any recomendations on a prop? i kinda thought a 3 blade would be in order to help that big brushless get some bite. oh i also want to appologize to blackout, it would appear that i have jacked your thread. im going to start a new one soon to document the build.<div id="refHTML"></div> |
RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
I think the villain has a 28 tooth spur gear. is that the one your talking about? I have an extra i could go check real quick.

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
as for a prop maybe the octura x450 3 blade, the x447 is 1.85" while and the x450 is 1.97" i am not positive tho if that wuld be a good choice in props

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
yeah i checked the package they are 28 tooth 32 pitch, right now on my villain i have a 20 or 22 tooth pinion theres still some room to move up to a bigger pinion so ill be tryin that soon. Ijust need to get the chine walkin to sto first because i cant hold it al full throttle.

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
Ihave the old villain IV i changed to the e maxx evx 2 16.8v. the motors are stock 21 turn e maxx motors, and im waiting for the octura x447 props to get here with the upgraded 3/16th shafts and upgraded u joints the batteries are 7.4 v 5000 mah lipos, they made a huge difference over the 6 cell 300 mah venom batteries i was running.

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
they are not made by traxxas but here are the links, first one is the u joint second is the prop and shaft, you can get them from offshoreelectric too

RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
hey guys what does everyone think of going with an octura v937/3 prop as a starting point? its 37mm diameter and 1.9x1.48=2.812 pitch
(<i dont know what those pitch numbers mean lol) and yeah this isnt a villain gearing thread lol back on topic, >nitro vee FE conversion |

well boys and girls the parts arrived yesterday and the first step is complete. take a look at the pic, i have mounted one of the villains motor mount/ stuffing tube holders in the place of the nitro vee's stuffing tube holder. i had to make a few minor changes to the mounting holes.......(as in drill and tap 4 new ones lol) but after that was done it mounted right up. i reinstalled the nitro vee's motor plate back into the hull with the new electric mount and stuffing tube to check geometry and it looks as though im going to be able to pull this off. im going to start testing using one of the villain props unless magically my 3/16th prop shaft and octura prop and prop nut show up today. although i doubt it due to the fact i ordered them at 9:30 pm eastern time haha
more pics to come...................... |

You will have more issues than run time! 3s could be a good start and 4s for more speed and power. |
RE: the Electric Nitro Vee mod
It all depends on what batteries you are using.. If you go with 3s on the VXL 3500 you should be fine using a small prop.. but if you want to use 4s the kv of the motor is way to kigh for a boat, even on 2s it will have good rpm to run fast.
