RE: kb45 setup
I saw the turnigy 120 recomended up above from hobbycity. They also carry the hextronic. Is the turnigy better?

RE: kb45 setup
ORIGINAL: nick 30 i knocked the rear plate of the can (hold the motor in your hand and just tap the shaft with a hammer) when the magnet assembly comes out, you have 3 brass shims at the rear and 2 brass shims plus a nylon thrust washer at the front, take 1 shim from the rear and replace with another nylon thrust washer, put the plate back on and tap it home (lining up the shaft with the bearings) On the bench, it runs a bit cooler so the next step would be to drill out the plates for ventilation its a shame the shaft is'nt longer so you can put a fan on the end to draw heat away along with the watercooling jacket I would like to try one of these motors but the 1200kv version on 6s |
RE: kb45 setup
srt10
i run the 1400kv on 2x 3s (6s combined) gives me about 35k rpm with a 30mm, 3 blade prop, might try 2 blade and see if theres any difference, with the shim replaced with the thrust washer, you get about 3mm play, the shaft rotates so much freely now but will still need to drill the vent holes (might get a local engineer to do it for me), i will strip it down and post pics of what i mean when its all done, its worth trying just to reduce temps 1 minute runtime with shim - hot without shim - not so hot |

RE: kb45 setup
i stand corrected, your right srt, it is the 3674 but the mod apply's to all KEDA motors from what i've read, will do with all the mods i do to the motor as its a good reference point for people
i will post them when i have the holes drilled and the mods are complete, that way the pics are'nt added a bit at a time but all in one go any idea what the material of the end plates are (makes it easier for the type of drill bit needed) |

RE: kb45 setup
yeah, i think they are, bearings feel pretty good, no squeeking or grinding so i'll leave them for now, i'll do the drilling tommorow as its late evening now

RE: kb45 setup
Has enyone tried the Mystery 200A ESC.
Its capable of 6s and it 200a with a 210a burst wouldnt that be perfect for one of these motors. |

RE: kb45 setup
How fast is that 45 inch boat with the KB in it? I am thinking of doing something very similar and don't know if it will be worth it. :)
|
RE: kb45 setup
If you are referring to mine, its probably 30ish...........
|
RE: kb45 setup
Okay thanks! I have a 47 inch hull and dunno wether to make is gas or electric. I was thinking about 2 KB45 XLs or 3 KD36 XLs or a zenoah.
|
RE: kb45 setup
i have the mystery 100a in 2 of my boats, i'm gonna shave the fins of the heat sink, add some double sided thermal tape and stick the cooling plate to it
OR shave some fins down, add 3 small lengths of alluminium tubing and thermal epoxy them into place |

ORIGINAL: OSUthrow74 Okay thanks! I have a 47 inch hull and dunno wether to make is gas or electric. I was thinking about 2 KB45 XLs or 3 KD36 XLs or a zenoah. a 47" hull needs a good amount of power to get good speeds. a stock zehn will get the boat to mid 40s and a RCMK will push it to mid 50s + on electric you would need a NEU 1521 min on 8s to rock it good. KB45 motors are amp hogs, they wast alot of energy in heat, but you could try the 700kv on 10s http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store...hless_Inrunner or the 1000kv motor on 8s? http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store...hless_Inrunner the key with big boats is low kv with high volts. that is the only way to get good speeds without burning things up |

RE: kb45 setup
I planning on putting two motors in a 32" Maxcat for starters.....Then scale up to a 42" Maxcat.....Then later on a custom 40" KITON
But know im thinking about throwing them into a 44in mono i have just sitting around. Thats if i dont sell it first. |

ORIGINAL: rebuilder ORIGINAL: srt10 ORIGINAL: rebuilder If you are referring to mine, its probably 30ish........... sounds like something is not right.. something is not right with the proper motor (big NEU-10s, 12s) spinning that kind of rpm would be pushing 70s IMO |
RE: kb45 setup
Yea i don't want to get a neu becuse they are too expensive for me and i'll prolly wind up scrapping everything out of the boat to build something else like i always do when i'm bored. I was thinking of the 3 KD36s on one outdive on 6s each. That way i can choose if i want it to have 1, 2, or 3 motors depending if i wanna go fast or slow with a long run time.(If i just want to just putt around or fake a SAW race) And use 6s2p 30c 5000mah lipos and have about 80-90 amps going to each motor. Prolly the 3000kv KD36L on 6s or 5s just because i already have one. And i want to keep in 6s or under because the escs are cheeper that way. So that would be around 5300 watts, and 6660 watts if i want to push it at all with 100 amps per motor. Pretty close to 9hp for 170bucks :) (2 motors cuz i have one and 3 cheap escs plus shipping).
That is about the most power for the money i can think up in my head at the time. That is kinda dream land stuff tho.. I thought about two 700kv KB45s a while back on 9s but i don't want to pay more for the high volt esc's when i am gonna wind up puting them in smaller boats down the road probobly. I have never had problems with too much heat very much on the KBs but they do like a lot of amps!! But two 1200kv KBXLs on 6s might be good? i have one of those too... hmmmm.... I wish i could afford one of the 11kw lehners and forget about it!!! :D anyone wanna buy me one? hehe :p |

All my boats run low 40s to mid 60s and all verified by gps all low kv motors and good volts = winning combos that last |

RE: kb45 setup
Also what speeds would you like to see from your boat? :D
