Pacer 70 build (from Big Tee Racing)
After much umming and ahhing as to what offshore hull to go for, and there are so many to choose from! I have decided on the Pacer 70 from Big Tee Racing http://www.bigteeracing.com/pacer70.htm
I wanted something that would be good and handle the rough, choppy sea conditions around the coastal waters where I live, I plan to do plenty of chase boat stuff. The obvious choice was to go for a Apache and one of these is still on my "must have" list but for the time being I fancied something a bit different and the Pacer 70 looks like it will fit the bill. Big, fast, well proven, looks very good and well priced.
Tony from Big Tee Racing (Radman35 on here) is just putting the finishing touches to a Pacer 70 he has had in the mould for me over the last week or so. I believe that from now on the Pacer 70 will be available in carbon, but mine will be fiberglass.
Engine wise I am going to be using the Prestwich Models Zen7 I already have. I have no idea how fast a single Zen, albeit modified will push a 70inch hull but am going to give it a go.
As there is nothing about these hulls on the forums I thought I would make a thread of the build for those interested, I will be posting pictures of the build and will also appreciate any advice and tips from forum members along the way.
The hull should be with me sometime next week so in the meantime here are some pictures I was sent when it came out of the mould (it will have a white lid!). No doubt Tony (Radman35) will be along and on hand to offer any advice or info needed on the boat, as so far, he has been nothing but helpfull and great to deal with.

Nice! I am curious though as to why the steps are not meeting at the keel as it should. How wide is the boat at its widest area and how tall is it?

RE: Pacer 70 build (from Big Tee Racing)
I will get the full dimensions of Radman35.
I have seen the notches on other real boats, my brothers old Regal had a fastrak hull. This had one full step but also had the inverted strakes just like the Pacer 70 and according to the Regal website these help the boat to track straight and helps the boat to turn nice and tight, I might be well off the mark. Maybe Radman35 can help us out here.
Anyways... Here she is with her white lid sat ontop of a prototype. I think she is a great looking boat.

RE: Pacer 70 build (from Big Tee Racing)
hi
the " steps " do not go right to the keel as i did not want them too i have put the small " feeder intakes " on the side to do two things , first shortern the turning water line and break up the water contact and second is to feed air onto the first 1/3 of the deadrise , i am not trying to make the hull a stepped hull
the hull is a great rough water hull and imo stepped hulls are very tricky to set up and not too much fun for the style of racing that the hull was made for
i do have a stepped version of this hull but with the testing i did with it i could see it would require a lot more work
this hull has takern me 3 years to get this far , with 4 test hulls and lots of on the water testing
hope this helps
cheers tony

Thanks for the info Tony, rough water is exactly where I plan to use the boat and thanks for the dimensions, I am going to have fun shoe horning it into my car.
Indeed a congrats is in order for 3 times OMRA D Class champ.
This is Tony's race ready Pacer 70, I saw this one race at the OMRA races in Penzance end of last year.

Tony,
Congrats firstly! Nice clean boat. I undestand your concept.I do have a two part question for you sir. As you are the manwho actually designed andraced these boats, I therefore respect your say and authority on them. How much more trickier is the (a) set-upand (b) what was it that you found or dislikedto steer you away fromyoursteppedversion.
I myself would fancy the stepped version as what I have on my 64F. Can you please show us a picture of the transom line?
Intenserapture,
Congrats on the hull choice. I like the symmetry of size. I'm really lovin it!

RE: Pacer 70 build (from Big Tee Racing)
More progress on the build, not by me I must add. Radman35 has been kind enough to fit engine rails, stuffing tube and stinger drive.
I have not seen the stinger in the flesh, but judging by these pics, and the size of the boat it looks awsome. The single engine looks so small in there, I really do wonder how fast it will go with a single engine.

RE: Pacer 70 build (from Big Tee Racing)
morning all
many thanks for all the kind words on the pacer hull and the OMRA championship , this year was very differant to the last as i raced and did the r & d at the same time ,,, not good in an ideal world [8D][8D][8D]
viper ,
i do like the stepped hulls too , and the first 70 that i made had steps , and after testing i had to decide what way to go stepped or not . i was going to remake the 70 with the changes that i had planned through the testing , and as i planned to race the hulls i had to make the choice , time wise for me i went for the non stepped hull as this was going to take up less time on the water
having to make the plug , make the mould , make the proto hull , test and race time is not my friend [][][][]
so this is the reason i did not go down the steped rought , i will however be revisting the stepped rought and will go back to the 70 and step it to now see back to back results . i also understand the step hull set up more now witch will help
mid summer is the plan for the other 70 hull as buy then the other new hulls will be done , then next winter a rest for me
guy
the single zenoah will push the pacer 70 along a treat , have a look on the tube at penzance 2010 for jkd and you can see the 70 in race action , did not get overtakern all day and highest laps of the day , all with a standard single cmb 26 ( the zen 7 has more power ) so not too bad [8D][8D][8D]
70 comming along , hope to send it this week just waiting on flexy [&o][&o]
not sure on colour for you but how about a vodafone / mclaren with sliver and bright red
cheers for now

Tony,
Thanks for the info on the stepped hull, keep us posted on how you get on with that later in the year.
Found the Penzance vid on youtube, that puts my mind at rest even though I was actually there and saw it for myself. It goes really well.
However you are teasing me with this pic... Hmm twins, only if I could afford them []

Is that two races down in the southwest? I think one of them is at Stithians, my local lake!
Those twins do indeed look a sweet fit, how much are twins? No... I must resist, but I always want more power An what is an SG35?
My favourite pic so far! To me, really shows the sleek lines of this beastie [8D]

Intenserapture,
I like the RED and BLUE on WHITE. As for power plants like Tony said, you can have a single 26CC or you can use his race set-up.You may also want to consider to go 29CC.I use to have a WHH V3M6 TWINLINE that topped at 40 MPH http://www.youtube.com/user/01VIPER27#p/a/f/0/L0ZjYFuohIU but I have also changed that to a DOMINIATOR TWINLINE (which I have yet to run) from http://www.shop.performanceunlimited...s-Boats_c2.htm .You definitely should also consider Gizmo’s GZ-28.5 Full Race Engine or RCMK’s S-520 TWINLINE at http://gizmomotors.com/index.php?opt...mart&Itemid=56 .

If you want all out power then you should definitely go TWINS (side by side) with one engine reversed. My next mono project will be configured like it.

RE: Pacer 70 build (from Big Tee Racing)
Viper,
Thanks for the comments, red, white and blue could be a goer. I guess I will have to see what my friendly local sprayman has on the shelf as I am too tight to buy tins of new paint
The engine I am going to use is the Zen7 you can find here http://www.prestwich.ndirect.co.uk/z...ineengines.htm I think for a single 26cc zen it is about as far as I can go and I already have one, I would love twins but the wallet is just not going to allow it[] I also want to keep the Zen7 as I plan to use it in another hull as well, that is quite small. This will be my "I just cannot keep it on the water" boat to satisfy my silly power to weight ratio habbit.
Here she is, sat on the back burner.
