My winter project
I just got in my new gas boat project, Its an Exceed Spider boat kit and I will be running an RCMK S254 EVO engine in this boat, i will show progress on the boat when i start. I will reinforce the boat a little bit so it can handle the engine it will be carrying. I need recommendation on what prop to run on this boat with this motor.

RE: My winter project
Thanks and its just the stock factory rudder that came on the boat, I guess its a new design for that boat, pictures showed the boat with a single inlet and a additional pickup off the back if the boat. I know its a knockoff boat but for my budget thats really all I could get for now. I got the motor in tonight and the throttle linkage situated. Now I will pull it back apart and reinforce everything, I will get pics up tomorrow. Just waiting on exhaust and radio system....

RE: My winter project
Looks like a splash of Stryker F41. I run a 36" Aeromarine cat with stock RCMK 254 evo and was able to pick up 10 mph by going to a 2716/2/15 prop. Many have had much success with those on Strykers as well

RE: My winter project
I've been trying a lot of props out on my RCMK powered Cat's and still am not completely happy yet as I know there is some more speed to be had somewhere. 6717/3's seem to work OK but want to try a 670/2 (7016/2) as I was told to try one of those. I need to get my pipe settings down well first. I've tried some 2716's also in 15 and 20 degree, they don't work too bad either.

RE: My winter project
Well i got the engine mounted with some mods to the motor mount and coil mounted. I just ordered the correct flex cable but this one did fine for mach up , and got a prop coming also. Right now everything is stripped out of the boat and ready to epoxy some stringers. I will epoxy tonight and post some pics either tonight or tom.

Yeah, I've got a bunch of VooDoo props done up by G-Force.
I'm leery about the stuffing tube as there's a lot of gap topside and it appears to be a Teflon-like tubibng the rest of the way. I'd be worried about cable whip tearing everything up.
BTW, your carb is on upside down.

I agree with Ron - I was looking at that thinking maybe it was a covering if it's not I use 5/16" .029 wall . I agree with Ron I would change it. If u go with a 'butch block' will be easy change.http://www.gizmomotors.com/index.php?

No problem. Most of us are in here to no only learn but help also. The learning curve on the `net is incredible, I wonder how I managed to get anything to float before I got one of these computers. It's also unusually slow for this time of the year so we'll ask or answer anything!

RE: My winter project
I really don't have any pix of how to put one in but it's fairly easy to figure out from your previous setup. Take the brass tubing and heat it up well over a gas stove until it's glows orange then quench it in cold water as that'll soften it up and make it much easier to work with.
Leave enough room at the motor end so that it's easy to unscrew the collet when you remove the cable, 3/4"-1" is usually good. Get it as close as possible to the strut or slip it just inside the strut it it'll go in.
Attaching it in place is personal preference. I've used epoxy and 'glas cloth or Shoe-Gooed them in. Some will 'glas in a sleeve over the stuffing tube and add a spot of solder to hold it in place. If using the a couple of these options I use radio box tape on the bottom of the hull around the opening to keep it from running all over the place.

RE: My winter project
All good advice, one other thing, your carb is upside down, probably will need to flip that to get a linkage onto it.

RE: My winter project
I ended up taking the stuffing tube out and the outdrive off, I ordered a completely new outdrive and it should be here monday, the stupid off brand outdrive was setup up for a 3/16 prop shaft but with a 1/4 flex cable which is kind of odd. But I ended up getting a wharehouse hobbies XP-2P Econo system since its just a mild engine and I dont plan on racing. I have to raise the back of the engine up to get a better angle on the flex cable. It has been a fun and interesting build and I know you get what you pay for but hey I will be ready to build a boat from the hull up next time around

RE: My winter project
thats the same thing i did. i have the deep vee and i bought a hydro hull that i refitted a rcmk 254 evo into. im waiting on a new radio to show up to be able to run mine. i had to do everything youve done plus reinforce for a turn fin. exceed racing is nothing but a dragon hobbies rename here in the states. my deep vee is a complete stock and it runs okay but propeller options are far and few. i have found out that venoms segad and king of shaves gas boats are very close in design and parts that run. im using there prop right now.

RE: My winter project
Yeah the whole drive setup restricts everything but you can run 1/4 props but you will need to sleeve the prop like I am doing. I will see how the drive setup will work on this boat. Those venom boats look like a knock off boat with the price jacked up a couple hundred bucks to me but I may be wrong. So much reconstruction that I wish that I have went with a new bare hull and built one myself instead of doing this one but hey its a lesson learned
