Default Rudder size and location?

Will a 5 inch rudder work well on a 46 inch boat? I have seen differnent locatons for
for the flex cable (propeller) exit point underneath some boats. Is it better to have
the cable exit underneath the boat close to the engine and go to the rear, or is it better
to have the cable stay in the boat and exit at the back of the boat? What are the pros
and cons? Does one way make the boat go faster than the other way?

Thanks

Well I like the Flex Cable to go through the boat and exit at the Transom so it doesn't have extra Drag. If you decide to put it under the boat and then out the back you be in more risk of damaging it if any debris hits it. And woud make your boat Little slower of the drag from the Flex Cable.

Is a 5 inch rudder the right size for a 46 inch boat?

Yes, the 5" should work fine.

Cables that exit the Transom on a Mono are called Surface drives and cables that exit under the boat are called Sub Surface Drives. The Surface drive method has proven to be the best for speed and efficiency.

Has anyone seen a surface drive with a solid drive shaft to the prop?

I ordered a CZ drive from Bonzi last week that is on it's way for my GTX by Expresscaft which is 65" long. Do you think this is enough? How long is it? Thanks, Ken.

Ken,
Though the CZ drive will work on the GTX, you will be better off with a stinger drive and offset rudder.
