I have the spd 3 drive so the center line of the shaft is a 1/2 inch up from the keel of the transom this boat ride really free in the water believe it or not it rides drier than my super g that is almost 10 inches shorter and about 8 pounds lighter I guess it displaces more water would 12 inches be a good starting point for pipe length

If 12" is what you can get to start, go for it. You won't know your final length without testing on the water. If the exh. transom hole isn't too large already, I would enlarge it if need be for pipe adjustability. You could trim out the hole with a large rubber grommet.
