Default gear boxes and surface drives

Could 4 surface drives be used on a boat, connected to 2 mh$ gear boxes. ( and i was thinking of each gear box powered by inline zenoahs, or inline sikks )
I guess my real que. is > How much more speed does the gear box give you being gear-ed up 38% or whatever the % is on it ?
would it all be worth it ?

no, it won't be worth it. the weight needed to run 4 drives (multiple gearboxes, twin twin engines, etc) would slow you way down. Two surface drives with a single gearbox will give you a nice scale look and still give you good performance.

Never hurts to think out loud - certainly cheeper and easier than having to learn the hard way (that was always the way I did it )
