Thanks for the info.I took the boat to the lake today. All my friends diagnosed the trouble.Collapsed piston rings and scored piston.I guess not enough cooling.

Default RE: AquaCraft Rio 51 Anyone?

hi! couple of years ago i bought a rio 51 scratch n dent at tower. comes with no engine. i also bought a sikk 27 for it. now i think im ready to work on it and maybe run it by years end hopefully. i am kind of saving for a tuned pipe for it, but im not really sure what pipe is best. it would be just for fun, altough a little speed is most welcome. i am actually more concern about noise, that's why i will probably be looking for the quietest pipe available. has anyone used macs tuned pipe or those muffled quiet pipes? i do notice that they are a bit long, 20", so probably 5" longer than the stock one.
also has anybody used the original tuned pipe on a sikk or zenoah? is it ok to use them without fear of destroying the engine like they do on the fujis?
thanks for any advise and help.
here's a link of the macs marine pipes by the way

Wow...this thread has been dead for over a year? Nobody running RIOs anymore? Does anyone know if Aquacraft is still honoring broken Fujis or headers?

Bringing this thread back to life......

Hey everyone, just finished this great thread after a few nights of reading. So here goes, I recently purchased a used rio that has the fuji but was sent back to AC for the updates, pipe support, etc. It sat for 2 years but I've been able to get it running and so far is a blast. Acouple of questions:

1. the left side canopy hold down in the hull is gone and there isn't much left to drill into, any ideas? velcro? the front dowel and right side are intact.
2. the fuel and shaft oil caps with holes in the lids? I've seen people use the tubing but why can't I just get solid caps, like on my blower, edger, etc?
3. the rudder's lower mounting bolt is missing, I've see the "breakwaway" plastic ones for another AC boat, will that work or do I need something different?

Thanks in advance and I llok forward to using the fuji until it expires and then the modding can begin!

You are one of the lucky ones that has a good running fuji. As far as the hatch ,I would do a little glass repair and either use stock holddown again or invest it some aftermarket ones.I wouldent use velcro. Those lids are about $50 ,so I would just get a little epoxy and put a block of wood or what ever fits to keep epoxy from dripping through and just build up area where holddown used to fit. After it dries drill a new hole . You need a little venting in cap to keep a vacume from building up as fuel leaves .I ditched my shaft oiler years ago. But I did a complete rebuild on mine. If you get the bug and want to do more ,there is pleanty of info here. It is a great hull platform to build a fun first boat. Also just put a nylon bolt in the bottem. For more rio info ,there have been a few guys working over their Rios on jims site. jrcbd.

Thanks stevo.  So far I picked up new rudder bolt, shaft grease and some o rings at my lhs.  Are all o rings the same?  Reason I ask is the old ones I removed were red but the new ones I bought are black.  After changing them, I noticed the exhaust pipe had some blue areas after an 8 minute run.

I will tackle the hatch hold down over the winter and for now have been using waterproof tape to hold down that side, works fine.

1 more thing the drive shaft tube in the boat that has the oiler attached to it can slide back and forth, how far should it be at the outside transom?  I looked at all the pictures I could and think it should be flush or just sticking out slightly.  Also, do I need to secure it somehow?

Thanks again!

If your referring to the stuffing tube ,it shouldent move at all. With movment it could bind the flex cable, and cause some issues.Easy fix is just a little epoxy or glass over it to secure. As far as sticking out the transome,It should go into the stinger a bit. On mine its so tight in there its hard to tell how far its out ,if at all.
