Default serious cavitation

when i give my challenger gas it revs high with white plume behind it and then it hooks like a slingshot and takes off
my prop is a Propshop 7016 2 blade any suggestions for a more well rounded performance setup

i am thinking the prather 275 cause i ahve one to try...

anyone?

i have that problem with my electro vee also. i was told to get a cavitation plate. never did, but i just don't go for a hole shot when i take off. just get her moving then jump her.

Give it a toss into the water to see if that gets it rolling. If you're just setting it in then nailing the throttle, that could be why it's cavitating.

The "with a white plume behind it" is that exhaust smoke or water? OK, try to get it moving on the water at a lower speed before squeezing the trigger harder even if you have to get on and off the throttle.

clutches make boats cavitate more, not less. As long as it does get going a little cavitation on the bottom end isn't always a bad thing. Your drive might be mounted too high, lowering it will lessen the cavitation but it could upset the handling.

My stepped vee used to cavitate if i gunned it from the start that was with a stock zen with a clutch running an x470 prop.I swapped to a das boata 6717/3 prop and this improved things although it took longer to get upto speed when it did it was way faster. That said the 470 was a great prop, just do as Ron and Mike suggest and let the boat get going before gunning it.

lower your prop by a bit, 270 and 275 would run less cavitation then 7016.

for the top speed, 7016 is a proven speed prop for a mono.

How big is your wallet? Prop selection is endless, I have about 50 and have probably sold another 20 that I didn't use. Do some experiementing with the 275 and learn what makes one prop better than another. At $18-$28 for a raw prop VS $45-$100 for a sharpened and balanced one there is a lot of incentive to learn to do your own! [8D]

thanks bro really good links. Grim's page was what i was looking for. now that i'm waiting on o rings for my pipe i got time to sharpen, and balance my prop. it would seem to me though in my no0bness that you would want to balance, sharpen, and balance again.

you remove material to balance then remove more material to sharpen. it's probably out of balance again at that point. correct?

I get my edge on first then work on balancing it from there. That's how I do it anyway.

that does make more sense than balancing it twice.
