RE: New build, might need some advise...
tested the new cat today, dead calm.
Steering servo wasnt strong enough for this big boat.It was pulling to the left badly, then wouldnt turn right after me trimming it via the TX.I like to use what gear i have from some of my unused helis,i did suspect it wouldnt be man enough, but had to try it, lol.
Motor started and ran well, idled strong in the water too, home made under hull scoops worked great, pipes wernt the quitest, but not too bad.
I didnt open it up with the servo behaviour, but never do with new motors first run.
I'll order one of these next week
http://alshobbies.com/shop/lookupsto...pc=34902&tab=3
24KG should be plenty.
We quickly realised this lake 'aint big enough for this boat, but ok for our quick turnin' race boats.
I've been runnin' monos nearly all yr and a Cat felt very odd to drive in the turns.nearly hit the bank a few times useless
It wouldnt turn at all in the end.!
bit of video.lol.

very nice job looks great !
video looks very good, running nice wait until you get on a big lake and open her up speeds over 60 MPH easy .
when engines brakes in you will see better speed .
I have the same cat w/inlines she will fly beleave me. watch running into the wind at high speed ![:@]
Keep us posted very nice build !
What prop are you running?
I used a VooDoo 7020/3 SS and got over 60 MPH runs good with a 7016/3 SS too !
7016/3 seens to work better in rough water only 2 props I tried so far.
I took my cat apart to paint last year and it's still not painted yet . This winter I will get it done !

RE: New build, might need some advise...
Hi,i just put an oldish X470 on it try,i didnt want to loose my better props, even though i ran a prop saver,i thought the 11hp motor might have ripped the flex to bits.
It might still do when i give it full throttle next runs.[X(]
My pal runs same motors with a 7015/3 in a makara(Apache clone) and his runs strong and fast albeit a fair bit of cavitation at first. He again hasnt tried larger ones yet.
Can you remember what your cofg was on your MTI? mines possibly nose heavy with the huge 2L tank infront of the motors, but cant really tell yet until i get the servo prob sorted and running again.
Which incidently was the servo arm slipping on the servo shaft,a metal arm would cure it but still going to get a stronger one this week.
2 fuel bags would possibly lower the cofg sat either side of the motor.
Should the cofg be measured from the whole boat or just the bottom of the hull which is in the water??
Brod..

Getting this beast of a boat nicely dialed in.
Running a 3014 2 blader.
Alro tuned motors bedding in great.
We need a bigger lake.
Ended with a BIG splash.

Lol,no damage Tony, just appears to be a hairline splinter crack in the gelcoat on the side seam, good job you reinforced the inside hull with carbon etc.hardly noticable.
In the relatively small lake we run i can only go full for a few seconds.Massive power[8D]
Another BIG splash..

Brod,
looking good, very good.
have you tried switching from the regular strut to a struder instead?
it would definitely help preventing the spin out.
made a mistake, not a studder but a skeg strut.
Dan.

RE: New build, might need some advise...
Nice job! Looks like it is running great. VERY nicely done!!! Spills are spills...a little light on its feet in the corners...keeps things interesting.
Maybe a longer rudder blade to keep it a little deeper in the water while gong around the corner?
Wish I knew Cats better...monos are a little easier to solve cornering: two sets of tabs and run the outside ones SLIGHTLY deeper so it sets the bow down when it lays over for a turn...can you play with the rudder angle on the rudder setup you have moving it in/out and testing the differences?
A couple buddies have strudder setups on monos around here an they work pretty well but the boats are a little sensative on steering input. It might be a mono thing or a strudder thing...not sure. They slow speeds down 1-2 MPH but in a play boat might not be an issue...?
Bonzi (among others) makes one...here is a shot:
puts the rudder inline with the prop (thrust) and is one piece of hardware...

Floggin,
sorry, what I ment to say was a skeg strut (thats what a lot of us use on our Cats), it helps a lot against spin out.
Brod,

RE: New build, might need some advise...
Thanks lads,i reckon that strudder will be just the ticket.
On fast acceleration it tends to wobble a bit side to side.It might help there too.
But to be fair there is so much power i kinda expected it too.LOL

I have expresscraft MTI just like yours and have swapped the motor to the RCMK C-520 in line twin. I'm wondering what prop you finally wound up with on your boat. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Brian

RE: New build, might need some advise...
To be honest i didnt try too many props, didnt have a good choice then.
I ran the ABC 3014/2 one 'cause it had brutal acceleration and good top speed.

Very nice build, and the Cat is very fast, I belive that the skeged strut will help the turning, but I belive a longer rudder is the ticket.
Good Luck
