Default Stock Prop vs 3 Blade VooDoo

I have been running a 3 blade VooDoo prop every since I bought my Blackjack 55. I have the M5 upgrade and everything else is stock. The boat seems to run real good with the 3 blade. I bought a prop balancer and since I had never balanced a prop before I decided to practice on the BJ55's stock prop. I have also bought a (X472) prop and did not want to mess it up. The 3 blade has been balanced and sharpened. Was running the boat last night and decided to try my stock balanced and some what sharpened 2 blade. All I can really say is WOW what a difference. The stock 2 balde will smoke the the 3 blade. I bought the boat used and the guy said the 3 blade would run 8 mph faster then the stock prop. The motor sounds so much better and the top end seems to be super fast. I have not gps the boat yet as for I'm still learning how to handle the boat and don't want to destroy my garmin. Can't wait to get my X472 balanced and sharpened.

dockman I am running the x472 2 blade on my blackjack with m-5 and gps at 45mph. I talked to chris at dasboata today about the 3 blades and between the 6717 3 blade with 3.95 pitch and 7016 3 blade with 4.10 pitch he suggested the 7016 was the way to go. He said I could get another 2 mph or so with this 3 blade and the 3 blades will help the handling some as well, so went and ordered one today should have it next week. Your x472 will be a few mph better then that stock 270, I also tried the x670 and the x472 was better its a great all around prop for low end and top end at least on the blackjack.

If I can get some smooth water to run on this weekend I will try and get a gps reading on the boat? I think next week I'll start on the X472 so I can compare all 3 prop?

Blacktalon are you using that 470/3 on your blackjack and does that have the 3.86 pitch. That prop is real close to the 7016/3 but has 4.1 pitch anxious to try it out next week.

I Tried the X472 yesterday and it killed my rpm's and slowed thge boat down bad. The stock 270 screams and the boat looks awesome. This morning I strapped the gps on it give it a quick blast (about 4 or 5 seconds) and it run 39.2 with the stock 270. I think it will run low 40's when I hold it wide open for longer then 5 seconds. I was dealing with a few small waves and did not want to destroy the wifes gps. I have no clue as to why the x472 pulled my motor down so bad when everyone else has good luck with them?

How are you running your strut? I have had to trim mine up some depending on water conditions and such so it wasn't running so wet and would ride on those back pads. Each prop you try can effect how your boat gets up on plane and handles and you may have to try some different things with each prop to see its effect on your boat. I do know that boats like a little bit of chop as opposed to flat water.

I have my strut trim up all the way. The boat takes a super nice set with both the 3 blade and the 270, but that x472 killed my rpm's bad. The water was pretty calm except the waves my boat was making.

With the 270 the boat planes just fine and when I hit the throttle it takes off just ok. About 3 second later it's like I hit a nitrous bottom (do these motor have a powerband?) the thing lifts on out of the water and really starts hauling *****.

Dockman,

so...whats the problem with that??

just kidding with you man.

some setup won't have that small lag, but some do (my friend does).
unless you would prefer an instant response you may have to play with the pipe length just a tad, but if you hit the throttle gets up and go, than she hauls the mail, I would let it be.

Dan.

Yeah I love the powerband effect but I would like to find a faster prop.
