Default Soldering brass to steel?

Simple question, is it possible to solder brass to steel? I would imagine a guy would have to use silver solder if it can be done. (It's for an exshaust system)

No you can use resin core solder also. The biggest thing is that it must be clean and using a solder solution helps allot. I have soldered flex cables to brass ferules for the gas boats for the past 4 years and have not had one solder come loose. Have had shafts twisted of right next to the ferule but the solder still holds. And important dont use a flame because it deposits carbon onto the steel which prevents the solder from sticking. A 100w or bigger soldering iron works the best. Just takes time.

Sorry did not read the bracket part. Brazing or silver solder would be best

For the Exhaust you would probably be better off brazing them.

Get some rods from a airconditioning supply house. It is high temp though and will require a oxy/acetelene torch but is likely the only way that it will hold provided there is some overlap of sorts butt welds
likely will just crack.

Get some flat brazing rods(silver solder) from a airconditioning supply house. It is high temp though and will require a oxy/acetelene torch but is likely the only way that it will hold provided there is some overlap of sorts butt welds

Thanks guys, I went ahead and tried the silver solder. Seemed like it worked (for now anyway). I don't have an oxy torch at the moment so I had to solder, but I agree brazing would be my first choice
