Why you want full length stringers
Here are some pics of a boat that stuffed at my local race meet on the weekend. He had a brand new 231 in it & it was hauling when it stuffed. this is what we retrieved.... it folded right where the stringers ended. 3 other boats stuffed on the back stright near where this one did, 2 with full length dtringers & they were fine, another without full length stringers which came back with stress cracks from where that boat flexed when it went under. That was an interesting race.
Also here's a vid of the 23cc gas cat race.

You can watch it full screen in high def, but it will take a while to load the high def.

RE: Why you want full length stringers
I built that boat along with close to 50 others with the same stringers, it was fine before it got slammed into a dock. If you actually looked at it you would see where it had been repaired before. I told the last owner it would never be as strong as new. Buy a second hand boat you get what you pay for! [8D] I still have #3 from the mold and it has been raced a lot more than that one, no problems with the stringers. I know that boat for it's the only red gel-coat one we made.

Oh well. It wasn't the only hull showing signs of stress in the glass at the end of the stringers after Sunday's racing.
Mike, congratulations on your 1st in 23cc mono & 2nd in open mono at the Carribean masters by the way.

RE: Why you want full length stringers
Hmm i dont see how having stringers end short of the bows would cause that to be honest, more likeley a weak hull to start with?.Ive not seen many boats with full length stringers most finnish about 2/3rds from the transom that ive seen. The only boat i put full length ones in is the roundnose but they need it to stiffen them up due to the shape of them, when i say full length i finnish a few inches short of the bows.

RE: Why you want full length stringers
You dont have to put full length stringers in boats true many stop a third of the way from the front
Cats technically have full length because of the tunnel shape
End of the day judging the the pic of the damage to the red boat shown in this thread full length stringers may have prevented some of the damage but it would still be a mess to fix
Water is a powerful force and at speed will wreck most things

RE: Why you want full length stringers
Well I've seeen a few boats with stress cracks where the stringers end & won't buy or build a boat without them. I've even seen a WHH boat with cracks at the end of the stringers. True an extra thick layup will help, but in my opnion full length stringers aren't that hard to fit while the deck is off, aren't much extra in time or cost to fit & they make the hull so much stronger on a mono it's definitely worth it. It's a shame so many builders are cutting them short.
Just my 2 cents.

RE: Why you want full length stringers
It wouldnt be practical on my vee because she has a much deeper vee than most and is deeper at the bows if you look at this pic it gives you an idea what i mean. The stringers are 2" high at the transom but they go deeper after the step then would need to go deeper still before the curve of the hull changes which would add too much weight for my liking.

Mart, there's no reason you could't lower the profile as you move forward, it would still add strength.
Ron. you're right, it was a hard stuff, but 3 other boats stuffed the same way & the 2 that had full length stringers had no damage at all, the other boat that had shortend stringers showed signs of the impact.
