pics of my cat
Hi,
Thought id share some pics of my cat. Its a CT03 with counter rotating slam 260 motors. Shes not finished yet but hopefully in a week or two she will.
The inside of the boat needs a clean as there is dust and crap from the build.
I wanted to get original victory decals made but the sign writer wanted to much so I went with my own style.
Hope pics work.........
Cheers Peter

I admit it!!! you caught me!
Over in the airplane side of things there was a fairly active thread with peoples pet cats that liked to hang out when they were working in the shop. I expected to see a Kitten hunched down by your boat on the workbench...

Lol Foodstick! Looks like a sweet machine! Looking forward to seeing it in action... And I dig your choice in radio boxes, I've seen them submerged, and flipped with no leakage... Nice job!

Thanks for the nice comments, I will let you guys know how she goes once I finish setting up a few things.
For the counter rotating, each motor has WD200 gearbox which lets you counter rotate either motor.
Here is a pic of the gearbox.
Cheers

Nice Build!!! Love it so far. How do you likethe WD200 Clutch/gear box so far (fit and finish, etc)? A friend here is bulding a Skater and plans on using that gear box. Werner is good people and his workmanship on the rest of his gear is top notch!!!
Keep us updated as you go! Looking forward to seeing some running shots as I have a CT03 in the office whispering to be built by somne one!!!

sory it is sound like a oviose question but looking at the set up it looks counter rotating with out the boxes??...

I think the jug was turned around but not sure as I got the motors the way they sit. I will keep you up to date with the way the boat goes but its at least a week or two away from taking her out.

Think it will run far to hot inside without water cooled exhausts, I know from experience. Sorry to say it but I think Hobby depot is only into selling stuff, not so much how it works. Hope im wrong. They still owe me $300 from some exhausts that I had to return because they got so hot that they melted the paint.

RE: pics of my cat
I have the more powerful SLAM009 in a 65" offshore mono. I'm only managing low 73km/h out of it currently with a 7016 prop around 15400rpm. The supplier tells me they are really made to rev up around 19000rpm and recommended props around 65 to 67 diameter. I found it simply cavitated with such props and doesn't have the balls to push anything over a 7016 prop. It dies in the ass with a 2714. Offshore guys tell me big boats need big props but the SLAM seems more suited to a smaller boat with smaller props.
The engine supplier told me to find the spot where the props start to cavitate and then lower the strut by 2mm. This advice is no good for a surface drive mono but it may help you with your setup.
The gudgeon bearing failed in mine after 4 days on the water requiring a total rebuild. So far I'm neither here nor there on the motor but I am keeping an open mind about its potential. After throwing lots of $$$ at it and 2 rebuilds (one to modify the motor) it now goes only as fast as my 2nd hand zenoah did with a poorly tuned exhaust. In my opinion, Hobby Depot's after sales service is second to none. For the 1st rebuild they took the motor back, modded it and had it back to me the same day, all free of charge. But for the $ I've spent I could have bought 2 full mod zenoahs or and inline twin.
I think you may find the wrap-to-center header & 2" band pipes are too much length to hit the sweet spot for the SLAM motors. Hobby Depot recommended 11.5" to 12" tuned length for their SLAM009 motor. I started with mine at 13" with a deep-vee header and the speed dropped to 56km/h. Now I'm using a stainless 90 deg header at 11.5" pipe length.
Good luck with it and please keep us up to date with your progress. Maybe you can tell me how to get my SLAM to perform in my boat.
cheers,
Tony

RE: pics of my cat
I spent the morning out at the club lake with Tony from Viperhulls. I tried his 7016 2-blade and 2716 2-blade today without success. One cavitated and the other bogged down. Ended up back with my 7016 3-blade. Shortening the pipe by 3mm yielded 4km/h speed increase and then the heavens opened up. That's all the tuning I got done today. Obviously there is still potential for improvement with the SLAM motor in my hull so I am going to keep going with it. I'm reasonably happy with 77k. That's 17k faster than the hull designer said it would go and I reckon there's more speed to be had yet.
