how big of an engine do i get?

most engines on ebay are .26 so i thought since I'm getting a large boat .30+ would work

EDIT: forget everything above this Ineed a kit that is under about 350 bucks...... so if you add up wood, running hardware, radios, engine = < $350

They weren't refering to a .26 nitro engine .They were talking about a Zenoah 260 marine gas engine.The .32 would be good for a small boat ,but not for the Easy Vee.A larger nitro engine between .65 and .90 would probably get it honkin.The gas engine would be easier to tune and run.You could also use a weedeater engine in it ,but the Zen 260 would be the best for it and some good hardware.

Most people would use the Zenoah 260.There's one for sale here on RCU for $200.00.Sometimes on Jim's Boat Dock someone sells one for less than $200.00 if you want to wait till one comes up and you beet someone to it.Very popular engine. http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/item.cfm?itemId=537803

That will mean making the easy vee would be 200 for motor + 60 for wood + 100 for radios + 50-100 for other hardware idk + at least 30-50 bucks shipping = over 400....

Ineed a kit Ican build for no more than 300!!!! maybe 325 or 350 not like 450 though!

if you are looking at buying everything new, it is not going to happen for that price (unless you make all of the hardware yourself).

we really are trying to help you. building the easy vee from new, all in all would end up around $600 to $700.

Get a second hand HOMELITE trimmer from your local weed-whacker (or pawn shop) place, sometimes home depot has them on sale for $69 brand new. take it off the shaft and mount it in your easy vee. Save the flex cable as you can make 2 drive cables out of it. Aeromarine inline hardware kit for $69 and you still have a few $$'s for a radio.

The bare bones gas boat from Warehouse hobbies is the enforcer line or super G and there about the best bang for the buck at $650-$800 depending on radio and servos, I am just finishing a Zippkit Rockett Hydro and with all the best gear i could use, I have about $1300 into it. Save your money and get a good one, Don't buy China Junk you will end up spending more.

Thanks guys, I'll just wait a while...

Mike, the weed eater idea is great but much too complicated for me I think. I need instructions step by step to put the boat together because I've never done one before. I will have enough trouble instaling the engine/fuel tank/line/ and other hardware. Taking apart a weedeater will just be to difficult for me.

Dan, maybe ill look around for used parts and eventually buy the kit.

The Easy-Vee is a nice kit especially for the price. I've got the owners manual sitting right here on top of my computer tower and is very thorough.
As far as a powerplant goes, Warehouse Hobbies, Bonzi' Motorsports and Gizmo Motors are 3 places to find new Zenoah's cheap. A stock engine is plenty for the Easy-Vee.
Get the hardware kit from Zippkit's, it's inexpensive and you get free shipping so there's some money saved.
If you need a radio system, both Futaba and Hi-tec offer FM radio systems for under $100.00.
If you look in the RCU Marketplace there was a completed Easy-Vee hull in there for sale at a reasonable price unless its been sold by now.

Find a complete used boat w/ radio,engine,hull, hardware that someone has to sell.
Remember tho; shipping can cost almost $100.00.

There is an Easy Vee Hull on RCU for 110.00 including shipping; New, Unused, you will not find one cheaper than this. This man builds them for fun not profit.

You can get a "Boat Builders Kit" from Warehouse Hobbies for 299.00; engine, hardware, exhaust, fuel tank, radio box.

Go to Tower Hobbies Scratch & Dent Section and watch for a 2 Channel FM Surface Radio; I have purchase three from there for around 50.00 each which were like new, never used.

You will not get out any cheaper than this. You will spend over 100.00 for just build supplies; not counting the tools you will need for the EASY VEE; unless you already have them; and from what I am reading you probably dont. No disrespect intended.

Just the paint on my Easy Vee; Dupont Nason was 142.00 for material, plus spraying equipment, plus 100.00 for Vinyl Graphics.

If you are going to lock yourself into a Maximum Budget; you need to just start shopping for something in that price range that will get you on the water; and remember the expense is just starting;

To get out for less in this hobby; you have to make a lot of your own parts or tools and improvise and do a lot of shopping and bargaining/bartering.

Quicksilver, how is that engine so cheap? all the other 26cc are $250+..

Nice to show just how cheap a engine can be bought for but you usually get what you pay for. That engine with the huge clutch bell housing would weight a ton an have to sit very high and likely have a pain getting mounts made for it and be slow as molasses. Get a Zen or RCMK.
Be patient and keep a eye out and you just might be able to hook up with something second hand for that money, otherwise get the EZ-Vee kit and while building save some more for the engine and do it a step at a time.

Don't do it to yourself, if your new to boats and want the best beginner boat at the best price you can't beat the SuperGator Kit for only $550. WHH's kits are simple to put together, and you won't find better customer service outside of WHH. Any problem you might have, you can call Tony up and he will be more than happy to help you out. Don't cut corners on a motor and hardware just to stay on a budget, save just a bit more and get an awesome boat that has been proven time and time again. After having your boat for 6 months, you won't even remember saving a couple of dollars.

Just get it over with and go find a RIO 51, There is one on E-Bay for around 350.00.

The engine for 90.00 would probably make a good boat anchor; on second thought it wouldn't; it is not heavy enough; you would be better off buying a 25.00 Weedeater motor.

Toofat; gave you some good advice; You wont get out cheaper than the SuperGator; plus you can assemble it in less than 8 hours; and take it to the lake and run it.

You probably havent even thought about how much shipping cost you are going to pay if you start ordering parts from several different vendors and then discovering you probably bought the wrong thing anyway.

WHH will send you a box; get Tony to Drill the Transom and Rails for you and then you can put it together with simple hand tools and you will have a nice boat.

There is a used one on RCU that is a 2004 Model and it has the Homelite Engine and the guy is wanting 750.00 for it; not saying he wont get it; buy you can get a New unused one for less from WHH;; and if anything should go wrong with it; which I doubt; you can call Tony and he will get you up and running.

toofatt, the title of this topic is "whats a gas boat kit for $300" that gator thing is 550 minus the radio.so 650...over twice ma budget. dont just list your favorite boat..I realize getting a gas boat for 300-350 is hard... but a 650 45 incher isnt what I wanted thanks anyway..

Half of this hobby is building and doing things mechanical, if you don't enjoy that part of it you might want to look else where. No body is born with a wrench in their hand, if your keen to learn a 30 mph Homelite powered boat is just right. Especially if you have never driven one before. It still wave jumps and gets up on plane just like Zenoah powered boats do, just at a more managable speed.
If building is not fun to you then you might want to look at a RTR electric. They still need a lot of maintanence though!
