Default rio 51 upgrades

Hello everyone!!! Its been a while since I have posted anything here, but Im finally ready to make my rio right! I am hoping someone can help me get this boat to suit me. I want this boat to run about 50mph, and I also would like to have a clutch. I know alot of people are against the whole clutch thing, but I live in south Louisiana, and sometimes you have to go really slow to get to the open water due to lily pads that are out of control down here. And I also think it would be cool to be able to stop at random. I pulled out everything that is stock other than the hardware, but some say you should change the stinger. I also want to keep the exhaust inside the hull if possible. I need to know EVERYTHING that it takes to make this boat run well and reliable. The last time I ran this boat with the fuji, I came close to burning the whole boat! The engine would not start, and after 2 hours of tinkering, I got it to run, but it wouldnt turn up. Then after about 10 minutes of that, the exhaust broke half of the engines cylinder off!!! I had burnt oil and gas everywhere! The inside of the hull looked like it was used to do an oil change on a car or something. I was PI@##%$^&!!! But now I have calmed down from that and I want to make it right. So any help on this would be greatly appriciated. Also does someone has a ballpark figure of how much this will cost? I figure around $600, which isnt bad, but if I can do it for less that would be even better. THANKS!!!!

Have a look on the thread about the rio in this forum, there's plenty of info in there to do exactly what you plan to do.

I would start with the RCMK motor from gizmo that makes 5.01 hp. I would also buy the pipe that they dyno'ed it with.

Go for it all and put a Quickdraw in it, with a WWH clutch assembly....

I finally got my rio runing, and its pretty impressive for what I have in it right now. I bought a stock zen 26 from cc racing and also purchased their exhaust system. I am running the 2-blade grim racer prop and I got 41 mph. That was only mt second run. I still have to to break it in, but Im satisfied already with the results. I plan on Buying a 2.4 radio for it, and also the grim racer 3- blade prop. I hear everyone gets better speed with that prop, so Ill give it a shot. I tried others, but the grim racer gave me the best result so far. It was nice to be able to go out and run, then come back home with no problems. I want to thank everyone for their advise and hopfully I can now help others as well.

jjaj...take it for what it's worth...

That screen in the intake while it does look cool, I found it impedes the airflow quite a bit. I eventually removed mine for the sake of better airflow....

My internal temps were less after a good run (gaugin by the ole finger thermometer)

Otherwise, nice job on the upgrades!

Cheers

You will get better speed out of the Grim Racer 67X105 3 blade prop but don't forget to balance and sharpin it!
If you haven't changed out the stock stinger for an aftermarket one (like a Speedmaster) keep a close eye on it for cracks. Once it brakes off you loose your driveline and everything on it. This will hapen on a modified Zen and sometimes on a stock one.

I recently bought a 2814 ABC 3-blade prop and man what a difference. I had to do a lot of work to it, but it was worth it. I didnt get to put the gps in it because my friend flipped his over at high speed and broke the screen, but you could tell it was a big difference from the grim racer 2-blade. I also just ordered a speedmaster dual water pickup rudder and new turnfins. All I have left to get is the speedmaster stinger, but no one has it in stock right now. If I were to guess a speed, it would be high 40s.(48-49 mph) I know that would not win any races or anything, but for the sunday boater like myself, that is plenty. I also just ordered the 3 blade grim racer prop to see what the difference would be from the ABC prop. Ill post my findings as soon as it comes in. Hopefully by the weekend.

Any update on this???????? Just curious to see what the outcome of the Grimraceer prop was. Did you get a chance to put a gps in it yet? I am researching the Zen swap now. I have had enough of the hard to start Fuji.
