Although the Featherlite 25cc engine has been used in r/c boats,a Homelite would be a better choice as there are parts available to make it a little better.Things like water cooling jackets, manifolds, headers ,carbs and tuned pipes.Plus they can be modded more than the Weedeater brand engines.I run a Ryobi Homelite in a crackerbox and it's a great fun boat.I'm putting a full mod Homelite that was made into a full crank engine into a 54" deep vee and am not expecting any great speed out of the hull, but that engine was run in a Zippkits Easy vee and gps at 54mph,so I'm hoping for at least 45mph in the 54"hull.

true the featherlights aren't a homie, but they are workable... carbs are obviously interchangable with anything, the linkages wil just need to be different, their downfall is the spring attached muffler, you'll have to figure something out with that. their other downfall is their very mild porting, they can be woken up with a little dremel work...

Make sure it's not one of the newer 26cc Homelites. They have a slanted crankcase and make mounting a challenge and I've read rewiews from customers on the engine and they seem to be junk.

that's one of the last generation of the 25cc engines, the only better of the homelites would be if you could find a 30cc, which the new Ryobi engines with side carburetor and side exhaust (I think they are C30 or something) are 30cc homelites

I don't know how much you like tinkering, but there are a few things you can do to them. for one you will want a larger carburetor, the stock carb from a G230 or 260 would be a lot better than the stock homie carb, it shouldn't be too hard to find one that someone removed to upgrade... if you want to dig into the engine, the post in the exhaust port is pretty restrictive, but if you remove it you need to get a pinned piston ring, do a search on here for frank bowman, he makes custom rings and if you ask him for a pinned homie 25cc pinned ring he'll send you one for about $15. also on that style engine there is a hole above the exhaust port that goes to the muffler, run a tap in the hole and stick a set screw in it. That's all the general stuff

...im getting 18'', but a page in the plans says it shold be 13''...
13", a little under really as the boat is 13" when skinned with 1/8" ply.

Have you printed the plan and measured, if not how are you measuring? When you print, do not scale to fit or anything else, print att 100% as Martin advised. I have the plan broken down into pages in pdf format, prints at 100% on both A4 (210 x 297mm) and letter (8.5 x 11"). If you want a copy then PM me an e-mail addy.

As regards glue, use a good epoxy, the longer the hardening time the better. Titebond 2 is also the business according to some prolific woody builders.

Yea as Webby says ,you can sometimes get good epoxy at good prices if you buy from a boatyard or similar and the cheapest way is to buy in bulk so the more you buy the cheaper it will be.Make sure its a slow setting one or if its one from a boatyard sometimes the faster one is the one to use as its usually 3-7 hr stuff' confusing i know' just be sure to ask .If bought in hardware stores or model outlets go for the slow ones they take arround 3 hrs to set and thats what you want.By the way if you go with a homelight use the Wa 167 walbro carb its the best one for a weedy motor for best performance, the 644 and 257 carbs are too big a bore usually unless you mod them a lot.

You could also try here: http://www.zippkits.com/
Their prices are pretty good. Even if the seller says they are balanced I would check them. I have bought props that were supposed to be balanced and they weren't even close. Doug
