RE: exhaust wraps
The problem is if any water gets in underneath the wrap the pipe will rust and you might not see it. Rather get some descent cooling over the pipe. Remember to much hot return gasses makes for a lean charge.

RE: exhaust wraps
Also the hotter the pipe it will make the motor act as though it has a longer pipe on it
A lot of guys will swear by stainless or steel pipes as they are more consistent with tune as the heat range is stable as opposed to aluminium or wet pipes

RE: exhaust wraps
I have a QD Deep Vee Hotpipe in my Dumas Scarab because that is what would fit. I sanded, primed and painted it with Hi-Temp header paint in flat black and thne wrapped in HEI 1" heasder wrap.
I run in fresh water and it has only been a few tanks of fuel so not sure on the corrossion factor. I suppose it will eventually. Looks good so far. I HAD to wrap it because it sits WAY too close to the hull and would burn it up otherwise. I just dropped in the RCMK EVO S254 with the same hotpipe and boy oh BOY that baby cooks now. I also wrapped the "intermediate header flex" with HEI wrap to keep the "leakage" to a minimum in the hull. Those hotpipes can be a bit messy.
I have seen some other guys using silicon tape wrap and it looks REALLY good. I would imagine you would need the "proper" prep to for this as well so the silicon wrap would affix itself to the pipe and keep the corrossion to a minimum. Not sure how muh it actually helps the pipe...those steel hotpipes are designed to run hotter than the aluminum ones to increase performance.

RE: exhaust wraps
A dry pipe will make more power over a wet tuned pipe
Benefits of wet tuned pipes is it is quieter and keeps interior of boat cooler specially when it has enclosed hatch
When i swap my pipes from wet to dry i picked up about 3 mph

RE: exhaust wraps
what's a good dry tuned pipe? I ran my boat yesterday and one of the water hoses came off of the tuned pipe. I noticed all of sudden that the boat got really loud and faster but I wasn't sure so ran a couple quick laps with it and then brought it in . when I brought it in I noticed all this water inside of the hull which was unusual then I noticed that the hose was off and the header clamp had come off also. I was running the pipe without any water going through the tuned pipe. I swear the thing was running faster.

RE: exhaust wraps
CC Racing makes a dry pipe in the PowerMaster and the TorqueMaster, Bonzi Sports, Cooper Quiet Pipe, Jeroentune Quiet Pipe (in aluminum through CC Racing), QuickDraw Hot Pipe, etc.
There are many more...

RE: exhaust wraps
I picked up a JeroenTune Quiet Pipe, 7/8" header, CC Raing Pipe clamp, and CC no leak header flange for $150 about a month ago. It was a good buy on a great pipe in my book. That is the setup I am using on my Rico Offshore Classic
The pipe is aluminum and the header is SS...not sure if that matters.

Anybody ever try exhaust wraps on their header and tuned pipes? Has it made a difference in performance if you have tried it?

For a racer best advantage is keeping the pipe HOT as boat gets washed down sometimes while getting too close to other boats. un-wrapped pipe suddenly cools when wet and power drops away until it heats back up.
Wrapped is does not mater, power stays up and you never knew you got wet !!

RE: exhaust wraps
I'm considering an exhaust pipe wrap on my nitro powered D-mono as well. Should I wrap the header, silicone coupler, and pipe, OR just the pipe?
Part of me thinks that if there was a noticeable performance increase, more experienced racers would be doing it.

RE: exhaust wraps
Just the pipe, the Silicone wrap has a heat limit of @ 550 degrees F, head pipes exceed that and likely will turn the tape into a crumbly mess ( been there & done this )

* Also works GREAT on Nitro engine pipes, especially outboards with pipes !
