32:1 too rich?
I just purchased a 1/8 scale Pro Boat Miss Elam. The directions say to run oil /fuel mixture @ 32:1, is that a little over kill for synthetic oil? The place where I bought the oil from said 32:1 is too much oil and he suggested a 40:1 ratio for the oil I bought. I purchased Maxima 927 because it is made for high RPM engines, and I don't have to drive an hour out of my way to get it. I would love to hear your opinion on this subject. Also what do you use for a gas can? I was thinking I would like to use a little 2 gallon can with a manual pump if could find one. Thanks all that reply,

I have and always will run 20:1 Synthetic to regular gas.
DO NOT USE Ultra Hight Octane or octane boosters - they (if anything) will have an adverse impact on performance.
You can run any mix you please but if you do a search for 8oz or 20:1 mix ratios you will find MANY threads about how perhaps 85% of boaters run this mix. Racers run this mix. Speed records are broken with this mix.
Place where you got the oil does not sell RC gas boats I dont imagine - a Bike or chain saw may be able to run lower ratios but boats are on the power CONSIDERABLY more than other motors.
You wont foul plugs like you might hear. But you may just save your motor if you loose a cooling line or similar.
You might also consider NOT using a full synthetic oil during the break in of the motor as it will extend the time needed to break in the motor properly considerably.
A 1 gallon gas can works fine - you could use a 2 gallon can - just make sure you use it up by the end of the season since fuel does loose its freshness a lot more/quicker than people realize

RE: 32:1 too rich?
use what ever makes you happy as long as you have at least 6-8 oz of oil per gal they say 87 oct but when you buy a new zen the owners manual says no less than 90 oct and when you get a full mod the engine builder says no more than 93 oct so you do the math higher the oct the better the performance to a certain point dont run 105 or 114 but at least 93 is better than 87. I got my zen from WHH with the m 5 mod the paper that come with the m5 that tony sent out with his mod said no more than 93 so do what makes you happy just so you know I went from 87 to 93 and the speed very noticeable do what ever floats yer boat....lol

Lower octane fuels are what you want in our gas powered boats. Right now I'm running 87 octane with Honda HP-2 at 8 oz. per gallon. Until they're dialed in I'll keep it that way then go to Coleman campstove fuel which is 77 octane and no junk in it that regular gas has. The white gas is much cleaner burning so it's easier to set your carbs using gas.
Price is the downside but no gas to stink up everything.

RE: 32:1 too rich?
I run Amsoil Dominator at 16:1 (8oz per gallon) , 87 octane gas.
But like you where saying if your 87 gas has 10% Ethanol and your 93 doesn't, than yes I would be running the 93.
Like Ron said, Coleman fuel (white gas) works, if you can get it cheap. I would like to do it but the price here is at $14.00 a gallon, so I'll pass.

RE: 32:1 too rich?
there was some discussion about fuel octane levels on jrcbd a while back, carlo from cc racing decided to do some dyno tests with different fuels including custom mixes, and out of all of them 93 octane came out on top, not by much though
i think some people are using "avgas" now and find it even better

RE: 32:1 too rich?
The testing done by CC is so small that its not even worth arguing about.
Like it was said earlier, if your 87 gas contains Ethanol, than use 93.
Can't compare what John Force is using with what we use in our little 2 stroke engines.
Maybe next time instead of putting a derogatory remark at 4 in the morning, one could have went to bed.

RE: 32:1 too rich?
Seized my BJ55 up the first time running it at 32:1. Ordered a new m5 upgrade from whh and run 24:1 every since got about 15 hours on the motor without any problems.
