putty zenoah???
Has anybody ever heard of this? I have a 23cc zenoah "putty" motor. I can see on the jug where there is a jb weld looking substance on bothe sides. guy i bought it from said it has "major" port work done and this is how they seal it up........
i hate to tear it down just to look at what i've got, but i am from missouri and it is the show me state :P

RE: putty zenoah???
Putty motors are from the late 90's early 2000's - I am not sure of the name of who commercially did this mod but believe a few home builders did similar mods.
With the old 2 port motors there was only so much material that could be removed from the port before you broke through the cylinder. The putty motors go well beyond this by using the JB weld to thicken/reinforce the outside of the port wall and then remove as much port as desired. I have seen a few run and their performance is impressive - especially when compared to motors of their day. They seem to hold together ok considering the modifications.

RE: putty zenoah???
we were supposed to have a showdown in L.A. ( Lazy Acres - 69 mm - Lake of the Ozarks) Labor day weekend...but i pushed it a little too much over some rollers and hooked the left front sponson and turned er into a submarine. Rookie mistake..anyhow it swampped my reciever and he has been talkin trash and spendn cash so when we meet up again he might not get embarrassed.
my little tunnel runs pretty good, but i think there's more there in set up and carb adjustments. still not real sure if it's a sprint cat or a stryker....hell they might be the same thing as far as i know.....

RE: putty zenoah???
thanks...never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. last time i checked, all a motor is , is a big ole air pump. where would i look for the serial #? need to get some specs on needle settings so i can getr dialed in. ( i'd imagine she'd need a little fattnin up from factory specs tho). thanks for the advice...every little bit helps

RE: putty zenoah???
is that a good carb? dockman says you can tell the good ones by : no choke, and no primer bulb...
on my lil nitro truck, you tune it so that there is a faint trace of blue "vapor" from the exhaust.....are there any visual signs i need to be looking for while tuning? i have no real equiptment for these motors for tuning except the ones i was born with

yep that is a good carb, im not sure how the older 230 engines run with them though, should be fine
you wont see any blue vapor from these motors, its pretty easy to do it by sound, a very rough explanation is if it bogs its too lean-open the L needle a touch (less than 1/8 of a turn at a time) if it doesn't rev out clear up top-close the H needle a touch (less than 1/8 of a turn at a time)

I haven't heard from Cornell in years, they are probably still around though. Bill Sydor was his driver, find one and the other won't be far.

RE: putty zenoah???
hey thanks....just got back from my lil test lake and i think i've gottr dialed in pretty close. bad part is when i was bringin it in i cought a rock on my prop ( another rookie mistake ) and bent the ears at the end. took out my trusty pliers and reshaped it as close as i could, but the sun was goin down and i was on a schedule. threw it back in the drink and i think it actually got more lift!! it was definately runnin better than i've ever had it runnin before....
better spend some more cash dockman : )
