Well i have to say Grim ..... I really like Aquacraft products . My very first RC boat since i was teenager was the MiniThunder . That was quickley modified to BL power and is Quite insane . I also have a V24 .......... Not so thrilled with that to be honest (Grim you already said that was before you were running the show) .I have a BL  MiniRio , a BL VS-1 and a SV .............. Still waiting patiently for your new cat !

The problem that youve encountered isnt anything new with AQ.
Ive ordered about 5 or 6 BL SVs and 2-3 have needed to be epoxied right out the box, and the others get loose in a few runs.
Its nothing unusual...what do you expect from Chinese junk.
Its not a big deal, AQ probably makes the best RTRs out of Traxxas/PB...etc

Thanks Russ, for the response. I really like the Aquacraft product line. I run Aeromarine gas but started with Aquacraft. The entire product line is user friendly and can span the beginner to the experienced builder. I know it must be such a challenge to provide an RTR for a reasonable price to a "I want it ready to go and I want it now" buyer.

As a matter of fact, I am strongly considering that new tunnel you are putting out. Kind of like the idea of not heaving a huge hull in the water every time I go to the lake. Nice design.

Grim,

I am enjoying my new Rio 51z - mine came well constructed and the only problem I have experienced has been with the exhaust. The forward upright pipe cracked at the base on the 2nd tank of gas but the Hobbico guys have a new one on the way.

Re your quest for caulk-gun type adhesives - have you looked at epoxy systems like this one that are billed as "paste" consistency? (http://www.epoxywarehouse.com/pc-sup...ste-epoxy.html). I personally like the glassed in stringers but maybe the epoxy could be used as a high-strength anchor followed by the glass to keep the structural advantage (realize this ='s more cost).

I have a little RC experience flying heli's so hopefully I am not quite in the "dude with a 14lb boat that has never done this before" category. I would like to make a couple of basic upgrades to get a little more performance out of the boat - what would be your recommendation for a pipe/prop combination that would run well without making any other radical mods to the stock Zenoah? Should the pipe be a water-cooled type? I would like the pipe to fit in with the present stringer configuration and keep everything under the stock cowling.

Thanks for the help,
Rich

Dreamin Hemi, Found a Utube video you posted a couple of years ago of your yellow Rio 51 which was listed as having a Zen 260 with mods and a BH Hanson pipe. This is more the kind of performance I would like to get from the new 51z I just got! Could you tell me what other mods we made to the Zen 260 in addition to the Hanson pipe? Also, your boat TURNS! What is the rudder set up you have to get this kind of handling? Looks like it goes left almost as well as right. I know the the boat will always turn right more easily due to the prop roatation but I seem to have to have to add a prayer to get the thing to even think about going to port!

Appreciate any help you or others are willing to offer re perfomance upgrades - I would like to start with basics (pipe, prop) before doing anything radical with the motor.

Thanks

rdeakins, welcome to the forum!

That YouTube video shows a Zen with zero drag seals, and ported intake and exhaust. As far as turning, in that video I'm using the stock hardware. I replaced the Tactic radio with a Futaba 3pk. Biggest difference for turning was made when I changed the rudder servo with a Hitec HS-645 (I think). Not sure what servos come with the new version, but if they are the same, scrap them. I had BOTH fail on me on 2 different occasions. Once when the servo locked into the FULL position requiring me to run out of gas to retreive it, the other rudder servo failed sending me into the marshes of our pond. The Hitecs get pleanty of use and never a failure. Probabl the best least costly upgrade you can do.

The first upgradeshouldbea Remote Kill Switch.
It kills the engine under any electrical faults ie, low power ,loss of power
loss of signal or if I just want to read the plug or need to "shut it down", it does it.
Both my boats and my Baja have them. It's the only sure way to kill the "motor"
when there is a problem.
Note, it is not a fail safe but a remote kill switch.
Have used both mod. picco's and KillerB types w/o issue.
$65-$75 dep. on options
I'll make a list of what I've done so far and what's on the way.
Later

Wow 10:1 seems a little much. Try like 20-25 . I run 32:1 after breakin.
The stock prop. looks ok to start. I have a selection on hand but have yet to try.
Just try +/- a size in dia. and pitch ABC props. have a great selection and good price.

the 10:1 was break in on the first run, I'm going to go 16:1 on second tank and was told I could go 32:1 from WHH on this stock G260 motor after that
as for props I was thinking of a S270?
or maybe a 6720-3 from Chris at dasboata.com ( lots of pitch )

Humm don't know about Zen motors as I have always ran Sikk./CY. Totaly different power band.
We trade props and try each others out before we buy. That helps keep the cost down some as I have props in the +$120
range.
My now 60+ MPH motor started life at 36.8MPH on it's first run. Takes a few gallons B4 these motors realy wake up.
Have fun!!

Well like I say my setup is different from yours.
Here is my train of thought:
Stock prop.- Same pitch + next size smaller Dia.
Same Dia.+next bigger pitch
Next bigger pitch+ dia.
Next smaller pitch+ dia.
Next smaller3 bladeof the oneI liked as 2bl.
Then of course there are choppers & cleavers, rake angles and cupping, water conditions...etc.
Now you know why I have a "selection" of props
You'll have lots of fun testing.
