Hey ron, those pics stayed small. Can you tell me one thing. On your boat, can you see a strip of different colored wood between the top and the sides? Can you see the spruce strips the selves?

It's hard to see anything in my boat. I'd stay with spruce over oak. According the the article, the spuce has to be kerfed about every 3/4" so that it can bend to conform to the shape of the bow. Oak might be too brittle. Your Dad's friend that builds planes could come in handy for a lot of your questions during building. Building planes and boats aren't that much different in techniques.

Yeah, I'm just stumped on where they go. When you look at the article it looks like the hull sides are in place. Do you know what pic I am talking about?

O.k. I read through the article again. They go in between the hull bottom and sides. If you look really closely in the pic you can see the notches they cut out of the spruce strips.

Just the same instructions as the one on RCBM site.
I have been talking to someone else how has built the wild thing and asked him about the side and the spruce.
When I have fully understood his explanation I'll let you know...

Hey, ron. Can you please talk to one of your friends who build the wildthing and see what the deal is with the spruce strips? Tell him the ones that go between the bottom and sides.

You'll have to give me s, I'm not in the mood for much of anything at the moment. I just got home from the Hospital --------again. I had an Angioplasty done that wasn't necessary and only spent about a total of 5 hours there. Amazing since usually I'm in there for 4 days whenever it's done so please bear with me for a few days.

I don't understand all of the confusion about the spruce strips between the hull bottom and sides and between the deck and the hull sides. They are essentially placed in the inside corner of the joints to reinforce the joint. You can't just glue the edge of the bottom sheeting with the side and similar at the deck chine and expect the joint to withstand the loads that they will have to carry. The spruce is epoxied to the bottom skin and shaped to match the side sheeting since the side is not 90 degrees to the bottom. The kerfs in the spruce strips are there so you can bend the strip without breaking it.

An answer for a question that you asked earlier. sorry, my power has been out since early this morning so I had some time to go through the article once I found the magazine again. You mentioned where does the 1/32" ply go. There is no mention of 1/32" anywhere in the article. 3/32", yes, but no 1/32".
I hope that you didn't order any.

Ron,
OK now I got it, 3 1/32 really mean 3/32 as in 3 times 1/32, in my measure it is 2.38 mm
I dont really understand your imperial measurements as we use metric only here in Australia.
Just wanting to understand the fractions described in the material listing.

And 1 liter of gas doesn't get you anywhere and you think you're getting a bargin till you realize it"s only a small portion of a gallon!
The 3/32" plywood, I believe was intended for the deck. Why such a thick piece I don't know. My boat is 1/16" for all of the sheeting (bottom, sides and deck).
Ron, I love to hear that word 'POP'. I grew up in Buffalo NY and 'SODA" was bubbly water. Now that I'm in Connecticut, 'SODA' is 'POP'. It took a while to retrain my taste buds.
