Does anyone know where I can find a cheep but reliable .21
As you all see in my other post I am going to start buildin a wild thing. I need a .21 engine but I don't want to spend a bunch. The cheepest I have found is an O.S. marine .21 for $130.00. Any help would be great.

Also, does the CEN .18 have pretty good power? If I put a tuned pipe on it would it have enough power to make the boat pretty fast?

the os is your best choice for the money, check at tower hobies. then ad a tune pipe, the mac is a good pipe for that engine and sells at a good price.
I have ran the os 21 and it did well, not as fast as the cmb or the mac but it is a dependable engine.

yep. I am going to go with the o.s. I hope that we sell this car this weekend, if we do I will get the money for the engine and pipe. I will also maybe have some extra money.

Hey ron. Do you think your sister could make me some stickers that say "Wild Thing" I am now debating what color it should be. Should it be red, lime green or white with medium blue letters and stripes?

I had her make the ones up for my boat so you can use the same font or any one that you like plus any size. She has some colors in stock or I can get some of MonoKote's TrimKote for her to cut. She does have some prizm and Chameleon stock also but it's not fuelproof. I found out the hard way but I clear-coat those now.

I also got a 238.00 dollar list of stuff on tower. This is the pipe, engine, radio, pipe coulpler, and fuel tank. Its going to be expensive. I guess its time to talk to the parents about a job.[:'(]

My buddies boat is white but I tried white once and found out that every oily fingerprint shows up on it. Try to find a color that has high visibility on the water. Black, grey, blue and other dark colors are harder to see, especially if you are running with someone or racing.

Yeah, I just don't really know what color would be good on it. I guess I'll just have to wait till I build it and see. Also, can I use lite ply wood for the 1/8" plywood. It is only for the top. What is the 1/32 plywood for?

Why is that. On the rcbm site they say the 1/8 ply for the top. At the place I am buying my wood, for the 1/8 you get two choices. Lite ply and regular ply. Which should I get?

I have used 1/4 balsa sandwiched between thin 1/8 ply on each side with epoxy glue. For my bulkheads, alot stronger than 1/2 balsa on it own. As for the joints Ron idea is the best.

Hey, I got lucky a little while ago and found the article in RCBM. I was moving magazines to a new coffee table and ran across it. I like Mcleods sandwich idea as I found out on my .12 version that drilling holes and mounting linkage seals would have something better for the screws and things to grab to. Screws in balsa strip easily.

How do I want to cut out my wood. My dads friend that used to build airplanes said to just tape them on and trace them. I also saw where a guy rubber cemented his on. My dad said that would be too messy to get off though. Any Ideas?

There are several ways. One way would be to use a copier to make it up in sections and then place them on the wood after cutting them out. Another way off-hand would be to get some carbon copy paper and slip it between the plans and wood then trace it onto the wood. The rubber cement trick works too.
There is a tool that dressmakers use that is a wheel with a handle on it that leaves small punctures in the wood, think of it as a small Pizza cutter with teeth. Hobby Shops sell them too. One goes under the name of Woodpecker.

Do you think it would be smart to copy the plans first. Could I just scribble on the back of the paper then trace with a dull pencil. Is that like the carbon paper.

Well, the woods on the way. It sucked though. It was a 25.00 order at least. I order a little 6.00 piece to make it.

Ron, here is some photos of my bulkheads. Extremely stronger than plain balsa.
