engine size for 42" hull

engine size for 42" hull
i have just brought my first boat hull.fiberglass 42" long with a 9.5" beam would be grateful for any suggestions on motor size. hobby shop said a os 3.5 out board would make it go fast .hull type is a shollow v its only a 5" deep at the transome

thanks for your replies found some guys raceing today and showed them my hull and they said i would need a zenoah motor

Hey Ron I don't know that I know more than anybody. I would agree with you that hull is too short for a race modified zenoah. We are beginning to overpower the 47" Lazers with the M&D power plants. It may work with a stock out of the box Zenoah but I would agree with you Ron that it still is a bit small unless he runs a gas motor without a pipe.

thank u all for your information . the people i ran into raceing there boats said it would have to b a stock zenoah . had a trip to the hobby shop a zenoah is less than half the price of a nitro motor and thinking also as this is my first boat that later on if i change to a bigger hull i can still use the gassa and modify it
