can anyone help identify this engine for me
i dont know if its a speed engine or not but i just bought it(dont laugh!) to put it in a boat i made for it
it was advertised as a 3.5cc .21 size but i think it maybe a .40 as it has 40 on it!![&:]
the boat is about 22/1/2" long
if someone knows anything about this engine or make?
or any info on the size of boat i could put this in that would be great! PLEASE!!
compression seems ok so it should run

It looks like an old Fox .40 to me. It's a Fox 2 jet carb for sure. Plus Fox was the only engines I recall with the bolt on carbs like that and the high backplate. It's nothing racy that's for sure.

cheers -i found lots of Fox plane engines that have the similar back plate but cant find ANY marine engines
google just doesnt come up with boat or marine engine links!
any ideas where i could track this engine down at all?
also i was thinking of putting it in a 30" mono hull?
would that be too small?
thanks

Simply add on an after market cooling ring and flywheel and you have a marine engine. There is/was companys that made parts to convert most any airplane engine to marine use. One thing that is weird about your engine is the lack of the word "Fox" on the side bypass bulge. Also the bulge doesn't go all the way down to the mounting pad. I wonder if some Asian company ever made knockoffs of Fox engines years ago.
