cant afford one either, that was the reason for lookin at the Sikk but if they blow as that one did i would be pretty sikk.
not sure about the loctite, you will have to ask mrfixitwhite, i will stick with the soldered option and try not to run into any dumped sleeping bags LOL, if that strimmer engine is a zenoah ,They are easy to get spinning quick (if you know a bit about 2strokers)

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
got my sleeve retainer off of ebay not dear!£
and im well happy that the glue gave way rather than the shaft! lol
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/603-Retainer-b...em280018524503
thats the one i got from STARLOC
easy peasy to do-much easier than solder -and easier to undo as well!
only need a tiny bit!

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
got the camera in my pocket ready!
Thats some serious money on an engine!! better get a serious boat built to put it in!!
and then I want a vid!
i think ill sort the canopy out on my boat now i got a pipe that works! and no more duct tape to seal the radio box- got me a screw on lid now WOOHOO[8D]
i was wondering if lifting strakes(think thats the right word!) on the bottom might improve the speed at all?
get some more air under the hull to reduce the drag a bit more?
anyway hopefully post up a vid later!

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
Well not too serious money?? i have picked up most of the hardware on ebay for peanuts so i thought why not ,as i want to build a canopy on the boat i thought get a proper watercooled lump for it, instead of the old weedy lump ,plus i had a top end that i had already bought (ebay) £7, it did not fit to the 15 year old weedy, so i will do a serious tune up on the ports. might get it up to 8HP Hello martno1fan lol
i hope i can fit the old weedy clutch onto the new lump , but that should be no problem,
I am still waitng for the 2 watercooled flanges and headers to come from Canada ,might sell the one i dont use, then again i could use it on a big rigger with the weedy engine? but 1 boat build at a time is enough
Good luck today, dont let the bells put you off !!

upped it to rcu videos! no resampling or framerate change!
if you play the old vid and the new one theres a definate difference in performance and sound as well
but Feedback guys!!! please

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
i got me a fishing rod with a large bait feeder on the end! and some 15lb sea line!
that was full open!
i think it might be a touch heavy- gonna consider a new hull in thin ply or fibreglass and redo it
i think the motor has plenty of oomph- enough to break the flex drive joint !
so with a lighter hull and gear i think i can get more speed out of it yet!
i'll weigh it to see how heavy it is! that would be a good idea lol

i forgot it was ply , can you get the engine lower ? or is it on the floor already?
fiberglass would make it a lot lighter, make mold from that hull

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
yeah its 3.5mm ply (1/8")
and the engine could go lower -maybe help with the flipping! lol
in the new hull i just need to think about the mounts before i put the engine in!
ive not done a lot of GRP but i spose just making a mould from it wont affect the boat at all.
i could use chopped mat for the mould but should i use cloth for the hull? any ideas on cloth wieghts/no. of layers?
did think about 0.8 mm ply??

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
sorry to hear about your flip ,if you do rebuild it id use 1/16 ply for the skin and not use glass as wood is lighter than a glass hull beleive me.to get a strong enough glass hull you will need a good thickness which will make it heavy, wooden boats are lighter and also more rigid.by the way no one upset me either rick im used to people with attitude, not a bad price for the 260 is it used or new? ive seen new ones for £130 .it might be worth sending it to dave marles and letting him mod it for you.as youve seen no one else seems to be able to get anywhere near what he gets from his.if you can get 8 hp from yours then you should start up your own buisness modding engines!!.by the way i belive the guys in the states who did tests on his zen7.3 hp engine used the same size prop as they did on a slower revving engine and it still came out equal but as he pointed out if they had used a smaller prop on his it would have showed it had more to give.stands to reason you need a smaller prop on a high revving motorto allow it to get up to speed.im sure 8hp is possible from the zen by the way and i believe dave has allready made a new pipe for his engine and tests have showed its running faster ,according to a guy who witnessed it the engine is very fast, faster than before with the new pipe.im hoping to pick up a zen 260 in the new year to replace the strimmer motor(no idea what engine it is says sovereign on it?).

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
hi mart yes a brand new 260 £128 with postage from bonzi , i wish i could push 8hp from it ,i could retire then! the standard power is enough i will uping the torque with a longer than standard alloy carb manifold and a boost bottle should get it going quick, quick,
Its gonna be a fun boat to see, just wait. i got my book today so i should be able to set things up right, i am still having duel rudders as i am not bothered about the extra drag if it does need a bit more power i will get the dentist drill to it.

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
the 260 is going in a 40" fiberglass vee wich is very light and strong.
no havent seen an engine like that but it does look like a husky,
i take it, it has a clutch?? which will be usefull
as for the revs i rekon over 3000 but under 30000 lol

lol yes it has a clutch 40" is a bit small for a 260 w3bby has a 48 " boat and says its a little over powered with the 260. not sure if youve seen his old boat? its the gas mono everyones building.same one im putting the weedy engine in.i have a 36" version with a 11 cc plane engine in (nitro) submerged drive ,goes arround the 30_35 mph mark.

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
any reason you went for 40" seems a bit small to me for the 260?,might be safer to go at least 48" maybe 54" would be better .im going to 54" to accomodate this engine,it shouldnt affect the speed too much if at all and gives me more room to work,im using 1/16 for the skin and 1/4 for the bulkheads 1/4 for the stringers for the engine to bolt to and 1/4 for the transomes.deck will also be 1/16.im raising the sides up too ,not sure by how much yet ill experiment with it and see how she looks .the higher i can go the better i think as this boat rides very low .my 36 " boat has a nitro engine in it so if it were me id go bigger than 48" theres a big difference in weight between a nitro engine and a gas engine like the 260.have you seen this boat with the 260 in it?i have some cool pics of one ,if you like ill email you some?.

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
40" is ok as i have lack of space at the moment, plus i will build it with a few extras, they might work they they more than likely wont, but it will look different as all the vees look the same, my one wont, it will stand out in the crowd!! i will be using bits from models of all sorts, (cars and Planes) whatever i can get to fit on. but it is for fun. It should make people laugh or say what the FECK , plus i will build a bigger one when i get my new house/flat, or tent sorted, and have more room

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
i just changed the prop on my deep vee from a graupner 47 mm to an Octura Z55
goes much better!
i thought i'd go with a bigger size and pitch
only i have a problem now that when i get to full throttle the boat leans over to the left(from the front)
i think its the bite the prop has on the water?
so when i turn the prop nearly leaves the water
would trim tabs sort it?
or should i try a larger prop with less pitch?
the Z55 is 55m size and 83mm pitch
this hasnt even slowed the motor down!
any ideas?
Cheers
Graham
