%^$# LHS's, I need help again please
OK the two LHS's are complete idiots on running gear for my outrigger. I went there tonight to get the parts to finish up the running gear like a stub shaft, thrust washer, drive dog etc. I tell the guy I need a stub shaft for a .130 flex cable (which he sells) and the first thing he hands me is a Traxxas solid drive shaft.[&:][:@] I tell him it no, I need one that is bored out to .130 and he loocks at me like I'm nut's. Then he asked me what boat it was for. I tell him it is for a .12 Outrigger and he give me the look again. So I have had it with the LHS's
So, could someone be as kind to point me in the right direction on where to get my gear? Also tell me what it is I really need to complete the running gear. So far I have a .130 flex cable, Teflon tube, stuffing tube, motor to flex cable collet and a strut that has a .250 ID. I was told it was for a .1875 stub shaft. I guess it needs some kind of a bushing.[sm=confused.gif]
Picture is of what I have so far.
Darn them Outboards are simpler,
Mark the Inboard newbie

check out www.offshoreelectrics.com
www.finedesignrc.com
i also think there are some gear at www.rocketcityracing.com
those should cover it
and fuller's (forgot website name)
sounds like that employe you talked to was either new or only sold RTR's
dont know about the brushing ( i thinkis something that goes between the hull and the strut where the teflon tub and flex shaft pass through an open space, but i could be wrong)
you will also need a small rudder and strut (with puckup for water cooling)
you already have the motors and stringers setup??

Yes I already have the rudder and strut assembly. I only put the strut in the picture because the rest of it is mounted.

i think you pretty much have everything you need (cept a brushing, and if your rudder doesent already have one, a water puckup and exit)
could you post a few pics of the boat?? that way we can get a better idea of what you already have and what you still need.

Poor business that treats a coustomer like that!! Was the person that helped you old and drinking coffey watching a small tv behind the counter while scratching his nuts?LOL sorry just sounds like that to me...
I have done business with offshoreelectrics before, twice, and have had no problems with them shipping was good coustomer service was good product was also right on key...
Also just looked at your picture again....are you putting an electric motor in it? cause that looks like an electric coupler I could be wrong I am only looking at a picture... Is it threaded? or does it have a set screw on the side?

I don't think the old fart did not know his @$$ from a hole in the ground.
To answer the ? about the coupler. Yes it is an electric coupler(collet) and No I am not using an electric motor. It was the only one I the J@#* #$$ had that I could make work. You see I am a Toolmaker(glorified machinist) and I will drill and tap the electric on to fight my nitro motor.

Yes it is a Dynamite engine. I have every stinking tap that there is and then some at work. But I think it is a 10-32. I just checked the shaft nut and a 10-32 tap fit it and a 5x.8mm tap did not. FYI the two threads are so close to one another the are interchangable.

I will say this I must be lucky, my LHS is pretty damn good. Its funny that the best person to talk with there is a woman, but she know's her sh-t. In the past year I have had only one problem when I ordered the 5mm to .130 flex coupler the got the straight shaft coupler for me, thats the only thing they have ever done that was correct for me(knock on wood).

Mark,
I see you have a teflon tube in your picture. Isn't there already one inside the brass tube?
Also does your flex shaft have a smooth and threaded segment on one end of it? If yes, then you need to put a bushing in the strut that looks like the picture I've attached. Locktite your drive dog 1.5mm from the end of the bushing, and add prop & nut.

G-1 No there is not a teflon tube in the brass tube already.
That picture in your last post, is that of a strut bushing? I think I need one of them instead of the Lead teflon bushing's. Hell I'm still half lost in what I need and don't need.[&:]

Yes, that is a strut bushing for a 3/16 flex shaft.
In my boats the lead Teflon bushings are only used in my gas boats that have 1/4" flex shafts.
This is a typical gas hydro strut setup. I think that is where you are getting confused.

Thank you G-1 for clearing that up. I undrstand what I need now.[sm=teeth_smile.gif] I'm slow some times.
Now just one more question. where does the brass stuff tube end? Just before entering the strut or part way into the strut?
