Ummmmmmmmm 'cause opinions are as numerous as the people that voice them? And anyone can say anything they want on these forums.... just because you read "x" claim doesnt mean it is correct.... you have to be the final judge of what is sound info and what is not.

Personally, Rod designed the JAE, and repeatedly told me to NOT try to "improve" on things, just build it as it was meant to be built.... THAT was good enough for me to trust. He ALSO told me to use a .150 cable.... so I did, and have no reason to look back.

Last yr (even tho I cant drive worth a crap - I ended up just staying out in @lane 20 ) I had arguably the fastest boat in the club .12 class, and couple lap @4 of 6 boats by the end of the race (I called Rod to tell him this.... He said, "Todd, DONT DO THAT, or you'll kill that class faster than ^#&! - and then I realized the truth of what he said/meant). Now this year, it sounds like most of our club has .12 JAE's ready to go .

So this year it is all about PROPS for me!

Just to be safe, I wouldn't put less than a 150 cable in any boat, be it a 12, 15, 18 or a 21. If I were to go up to a 40/45 it would be a 3/16 cable, while anything bigger would be 1/4. Last thing I can afford is to watch my boat drift to a stop with the prop on the lake bottom[X(]

I have ran a dragbike for years and if Ive learned one thing its that sometimes these little things that get you more HP sometimes bite you in the *****. I have won more races by being able to hang all day. just use the .150 and take the advise of the man that knows

small changes and making one change at the time tend to get the best results, but with a kit like this, (according to everyone and their brother) you just shouldnt change anything

I just finished building the 12th one two of them where for me, the ones that are ready to go have just been dropped in the water and go like a bat out of hell. until you get to know them I dont know why you would change any thing.

Then you got some guy's like Glen from Nova Rossi USA trying out 1/16 piano wire on his .12 boat. thow he's breaking some. His (Quote's)Tim, the wire drive is sorta like a flex cable, but uses a 1/16" piano wire to the stubshaft instead of a cable. I am still not ready to say they are better than a cable because I have been breaking a bunch of them (in some CRAZY ways...). I still hope to do some direct comparison testing between the wires and cables one day. Even though my cable boat looks and sounds about the same, I just get a feeling that the wire is faster.

HJ,If I remember wright? first gen Miss Vegas had .130 cable's on them.

I won't use any less than a .150 cable, the .130 cost me To Many Props before I learned better.

correct, the first gen vegas had the smaller cable, BUT thats one good example to,, its a mass produced RTR boat and has had more feedback than most likely any other one boat on the market. In that "mass testing" so to say, they found one of the a problem area's to be the smaller cable so they went up a size and that fixed a lot of the problems.(might add also that the cable and stubs quality/material isnt top grade by any means and alignment of shaft tube along with incorrect drive dog spacing all play part in the issue)

not to get off topic, but which props, are similar to the prather 215 in octura.

i looked at a couple prop charts but i guess i killed some brain cells when i fell down the stairs last nite.

Lost you Ron, I have the 150 dia Ed Hughey Flex cable / shaft . Every flex Shaft I have is a Hughey, They make a great product. never off set If you do make your own, allways ck buy placing in a drill & run. You'll know if your solder job was staight & true. And allways know your solder. All solder is not equal. some are harder than others. Clean all areas very well inside & out. When they case harden the shafts thers a lite film inside the inner shaft. The 125 dia looks just as good. As long as they don't spin inside the Flex hex. We don't need to meet "the pond God"

Hey, I'm just going according to what Gary Preusse told me and the old boy has been in this hobby/sport forever so I tend to trust him. It could be the size of the strands or the metal that they're made of, I don't know but in over 12 years of running .12 boats the only one that I lost was my fault, not that of the cable. I did try an .098" cable once, that was a mistake!
A Prather 215 is really close to an Octura X-440 in size but the Prather is a constant pitch prop where the Octura has a progressive pitch.

the pitch was what was hanging me up.

if i find the boat is in need of a different prop (i have a 215) should i go to trying the octura series, or stick with prather..

ive learned alot about boats, but props are still a mystery to me.
