Not knowing what exactly you're typing about I am assuming that they are talking after cleaning the engine after running for the day. Nitro is a corrosive so to keep the engine from rusting or corroding the internal parts some kind of cleaner is run through it. Some will first spray some WD-40 followed by an after-run lubricant like ATF, light machine oil. Marvel Mystery Oil or even hydraulic fluid to help displace the nitro.
Don't polish the piston or sleeve. Today's engines don't need it and you can do a lot of harm by trying.

I use wd-40 and an old soft bristled tooth brush to clean varnish and gunk from engines, wipe off with a cloth then lightly oil with a lite machine oil....
You could use ultra fine steel wool to polish parts.....
