Prop working question
 

When I started working my props, I tried to get the tips of them relatively pointed. I really don't know why. I just saw someone's prop that was pointed, so that is what I tried to do.

Here recently someone told me to round these tips off, instead of making them pointy like I have been doing.

From looking at the picture of the new aquacraft props, I see some of them are pointed, some are round.

I was wondering if anyone had any input as to the benefit of having them either pointed or rounded off.

The pointed props are lifting props for hydroplanes. However, the props we're running on the MVs are rounded.

AHHHHHHH so many wonderfull things to do to props,aint it great.....Remember take two exact same boats set-up the same different results will come from each one, so the prop on boat A might not be a good one for boat B

Thanks for the inputs.

So...with the MV...and using various X and Y series props...is it better to leave the points, or round them off??

And...if it is better to round them off, how far back do you sharpen the blade? Currently, I make the rear of the blade flat, and the sides sharpened. Would I sharpen them all the way to the hub?? Half way through the rounded off corner?? The whole rounded off corner leaving the uncurved back of the blade flat still?

Hey Sean,

Same thing with the MV,

one prop from one MV may not work as well on an other MV. It may run better but may not be as performant than the MV it came off from.

This is what I'd said on the vegas thread.I was just at my favorite hobby shop and found out the owner races 1/8 tunnel hulls.He's showed me his prop colections about 20 props!!! So I'd asked him about round and pointed ones. He'd told me the the round and scoop props are for power and speed.The pointed ones are for lift and some what speed.I wished I had his colections of props!:D:D But I like the web about props you'd put up jetpack!!:D:D:D

Here's a photo that is hard to find. This is the inside of a prop box of a current F1 Tunnelboat team. Save it to your desktop and zoom in with your mouse. Look at all the special shapes just one of these props carry. Study the leading edges all the way around, and also study the last outermost area of the face (handprint size area) - You will see some cupping and some rake changes, and also study the kick-out lips.
