RE: .21 Zippkit ready to go

Yes , Ron I made my own. Its too big & we got some leaks in the tank. Back to the drawing board .I did order another .21 from Joe. The engine is a Nova Rossi T35PLUS .21, ZOOM carb, reworked props. reworked bearings, pipe is a K pipe. Ready to fly I did notice a little hangup on the fly wheel & Block

Come on Craig! I'm taking a little break right now, snarfing down some lunch, doing a quick surf here then heading back down. Working on the .12, the .21 and a gas Cat all at once. I don't know if I'm multi-tasking or my ADD at work! :D

Damn, I forgot about the Detroit and other team game! :D Years ago that used to bew one of the biggest rivalries in the NHL, now it's the D vs. the Avalanche.
I've got the NASCAR race on now, Junior ain't doin' so hot again. Good news is that Truex is movin' up.
I've got paint drying on 2 sets of sponsons now and I'm done with the Cat for the day. Getting the mount in the tub for JAE .12 #2 is next if I don't get distracted again when I go back to the shop.

I'm glad to see this thread start! I just got my kit, awaiting my engine/pipe, etc.. but am ready to start. Ordered some aluminum angle stock to build a jig- anxious to get going. When I received my kit, one sponson foam block was warped pretty badly, Joe's sending me another set.

Joe Stands behind his product. He very good at any problem. One guy put his ski on wrong. He called Joe and was sent out a new ski. no charge On my first kit i was missing a bag of small stuff , in the mail to me the next day. The use of a bar stock or aluminum angle. is a must. Here is a little helper

Thanks for the pic's, AB- yes, there's a million ways to clamp odd shapes... a good place to use the imagination! As the saying goes, one can never have too many clamps.
Or sticks and rubber bands!
Getting back into boating, I'm not used to the idea of using cyano's for gluing up structures... I assume that coating everything with epoxy afterwords reinforces the joints?? Using accelerators with superglue, is it best to apply the glue- then hit it with a shot of accellerator?? Or is the accellerator really useful- if it sets up in a reasonable amount of time?? How much would you use- just a light shot??

RE: .21 Zippkit ready to go

(can you tell- I've never used accelerators with superglues!?!?)
One of my favorite tricks to use is masking tape... for clamping- as well as masking glue joints to prevent glue squeeze-out from being a problem... doing a lot of woodworking where I don't want glue to show on the wood surface- or to prevent proper staining, by applying masking tape along both sides of the joint, then I don't have to worry as much about glue squeeze out- I simply wipe off the excess off the tape, then pull the tape off and have a nice, clean joint.

How are people attaching/securing fuel tanks in this boat?? Any pictures?? Also, would love to see some transom shots of these boats...
Thanks!

I used some double-sided foam tape but am looking for a better way.

RE: .21 Zippkit ready to go

Perhaps hooks on the side of the hull somehow- and rubber bands?? Would still need foam to cushion the tank...

RE: .21 Zippkit ready to go

Do not use Ca around foam .It will eat it. 30 min epoxy & 5 min epoxy If & when you use 5 min you will need to cover over it with a sealer / 30 min CA & a squirt of accelerator is good for the 1/4 balsa angle , as well side ribs
5min & nitro are a No No = strength, good
30 min & nitro is ok = strength ,best
As far as a fuel tank the prints say Sullivan SS -8 OZ PACKING NOODLES TO HOLD In

Glenn's .21's are the best buys out there right now. I have to get some money out to him to get mine tomorrow for mine. I'm probably going to pass on his pipe though and go with a Cooper 21S but otherwise he has pretty much everything else that you'll need, collet, header, NR pipe, starting belts and will do carb work if you want that done so that it uses a remote needle.
MAC's are no longer made but there are some that you can get new in the box yet.

If you have the older strut, from Joe I turned my rudder around, re-drilled the strut. pressed back in my bearings in ,OH OH It's not straight, aim's toward the left sponson, You will need to grind back most of the taper. a little of my strut has split along the side. Now what? LOL will take it back out & try another press, maybe some heat Has anyone had to adjust the strut, for prop walk & engine rpms ,like left trim on that rudder to make her run straight Yes/No ?? Look out bearings out of line http://i42.tinypic.com/1ifplu.jpg
PS got my strut straight http://i39.tinypic.com/34hdpqq.jpg

My Nova Rossi arrived this past week so I can get more done on it now. With at least 3 projects going on I'm a little busy. I just came up to grab something to eat then back to the dungeon, been wrestling with one of my gas Cat's today and just about done with that then over to the other table to work on the JAE .21. The other Cat is sitting in Ohio getting frash paint put on it. When parts comew in for the Lazer 45 this week then that'll be getting some attention. I'm on vacation in another week so you know where I'll be spending most of it! [sm=teeth_smile.gif]

What one Ron? That hybrid you been talking about? look @ my AoA what do you think ?? too much postive? I did go to my old Gilly Lake and it's dry & there is equipment inside digging. I only live 1/2 mile to the Seneca River, it's high& swift with runoff, not a place to startoff with a new engine. The other side of Syracuse is the place. Sunny but cold still, later in the week 60-70 degrees ;)
