Hey guys, I don't want to cause any problems, but I have been hearing a LOT of negative things about the new RCU. First off the fun thing about the old RCU (for me) was that it didn't seem like this big complex company, you could just go there and have fun, it wasn't too complex, and I think everyone liked it that way. Just because you add more bells and whistles doesn't mean it makes the site better, it seems way to cluttered. I say kiss (keep it simple sam). Also I think that charging for classifieds, and galleries upset a lot of people. I understand you need compensation, but when people are accostumed to having free galleries, and classifieds, and just like that one day they are gone people are bound to get mad. I think that might be a mistake, because users are going to start going to torqueroll, and other forums for their classifieds from now on. Maybe if you charged like 3%-4% of a sale people might not be so mad, or eased your way in to charging people for everything.
I just wonder why mess with a good thing? The old RCU was great, I never heard anyone complain (hardly ever), and now it is a common occourance. I feel there should have been a few minor improvements to the old rcu, but why was the whole redesign neccesary?
Well thats it,
I hope I didn't upset anyone.
Thanks
Chris

Chris,

I'm just an RC'er and avid RCU user, But I have to throw My thoughts in here.

The Old RCU for Me was a fun and easy to use site, I have bought many many items from the classifieds as well. I think it was great the way you could find things for sale and trade seeing it was a very large community, and you even had regulars that were great to deal with.

I wish it was still available here, OH Wait it is' You can still buy with no fees, only sales have been changed to a minimal fee base.

The thing about the change I don't hear mentioned much is the way it could be a lot worse, You might of had to pay for membership, or the ads could still be full page because Marc did'nt want to upset the advertisers and loose the $$$$

Marc still tries to give us all a good place and a modern style to go along with it, I think its mainly a time thing that most people are upset with. If the site was click 1 2 3 there would'nt be so many complaints, but too many users want it now and can't wait a little while for it.

I look at it like this, I still have standard AM & FM radios, I have no Idea how to program a computer radio cuz I never owned one. But that dosen't mean I wont buy one and learn to program it, unless I am too afraid of change.

You know the whole deal is about the whinners, the more they whine the more Marc tries to give them. The more improvements and the re-writting of code to bring the old way back for them, just because he listens and still Cares.

The whole idea was to afford to keep the site running, but guess how thats done in today's computer-radio age?? I don't think very many donated $$ on the old system, I also think the things to come will cause most classified sales sites to re-think expenses in the near future.

This is here now and its getting better everyday thank's to the hard work of the RCU Admin (All), You can use it all You want or You can go elsewhere.

The great thing is we still have a choice'

Yea, what wornboots said.

(Too complex?? I got to this post and am typing a response after only 3 mouse clicks from the main page, the same as the "old RCU". This is a problem??)

It is one extra click if you go to the site homepage. IF that is too much of a burden than a user can bookmark their MyForum Homepage instead. Personally, I like to see the cool stuff on the homepage (news, new products, contests, etc)

RCU isn't rocket science. It does take more than 1 minute to learn your way around but doesn't take an hour on the other hand.
