Had a posting of mine recently removed for no other reason than it had nothing to do with R/C. I was actually soliciting advice for carpet in my basement. Maybe if I stated that it was my new R/C construction room, it may not have been deleted.

Why not just spend 30 seconds looking for a place with a carpet forum, like this one? http://forum.doityourself.com/

You'll get better answers there.

Plus, the rules say all posts must be about RC.

While I understand the draw towards Off-Topic forums, I don't see what it adds to the value of a website/forum dedicated to a specific subject other than to pull away from that subject. Whether it's a carpet website, RC website or a Noodle Roni website......... nevermind, this has been discussed so many times before.

Someone needs to start a forum website called Off-topic.com. Then people could go there and talk about whatever they want.

For now, here, we talk RC.

If Someone sees a thread like (what do you do for a living, John Travolta's House, you must read this-or risk a prizon sentence) these that are in clubhouse now, then it gives the impression that any topic can be discussed.

But this site is called RCUniverse, and its for the enjoyment of RC vehicles and the promoation of those activites,

Carpet is too much of a dust and pin catcher wood would be better. IMO

So the point is don't pick and choose which off topic can go or stay, be firm with the rules for all'

Is talking about John Travolta's house, even though he flies scale, have anything to do with RC? Nope, but the thread remains.

Regardless of the rules, I have found the sound advice that I have recieved from the members of this forum to be excellent. The mere fact that I asked a question that had NOTHING to do about RC does not in any way degrade the quality of the site. Having a forum for anything other than RC can open up avenues for topics or help from professionals on any subject. Think about it, there are thousands of people out there, all with different experiences and professions, and being able to tap that can be a useful thing for everyone.

I really don't see how it hurts anybody to have such a forum. A little bandwidth, I guess.

Here's why I think it's a good idea: The more successful RCU is, the more it starts to feel like a community. People trust the people here, because they've dealt with them, got advice from them, discussed things with them. Because they trust them, and because they feel a sense of community, they'd rather ask off-topic things here than to try to feel comfortable in a whole new discussion site. It's true, they'd probably get better advice from a site dedicated to what they want to ask, but that's not really the point. When you go to the field, do they restrict your conversations to just RC?

EXACTLY!!! Why would I trust the people on some board I found off google? I wouldn't. But here, I feel like I am at the field, and everyone looks out for everyone elses best interest.

I do want to add a full scale forum for possibly cars, boats, helis and planes. One single forum and each of those child forums under it. Totally off topic is not allowed because it becomes a runaway train.

Let me chime in here as it was me that removed the thread in question. We have rules that say it must be R/c related to post but in most cases it's a judgement call and we do give some latitude when it comes to a post. Now the thread on John Travolta is mentioned but if you notice it does have something areonautical in the subject, the other post is very informative and timely information for all of us who surf the net as we do tend to forget that there are those out there who will cause you problems. The guy posted good information on different products to help you keep that from happening to you. Now a post about what kind of carpet I am afraid doesn't even come close to either one of those posts and no matter how much latitude given it just didn't cut it. We try very hard to please everybody but it's a losing battle sometimes and shown in the thread someone gave a link to follow that would have answered your questions about carpeting, something you could have done also. I do hope this clears up why the thread was removed.

Yes I do carry Rhinocover and far as I am concerned it's the best out there!!!! It's all I use when I want a white plane and it has a bit of pearl in it and looks great in the sun. You can also paint it if you so wish, I hate to paint!!!!

Comes in one color, and has to be painted??? Not user friendly for us Apartment dwellers, but looks like neat stuff.
