Default Search within a thread

When will this be an option again? Finding specific info in some of the larger threads is next to impossible.

I hear ya!!

I just spent a couple of hours running through some monster ARF threads looking for specific engine applications. It would have been GREAT if I could have just entered a key word and distilled out all of the responses containing the relavent information. Some of these threads have many hundreds of responses - most of which did not contain any related information.

You can do a "control F" and search each individual page for a key word and go through the pages a lot faster but a thread search would be much easier.

Well a few weeks without a response from the powers that be tells me this one isn't in the near future. The old format had this feature, so much for progress. I can't believe we are in the minority on this one.

we got some great new features on this forum that the old one did not have. some of the old features are forthcoming but require a lot of redesign because of the architecture of this codebase. a simple thread search isn't so simple in the code so we are going to have it in the next MAJOR revision of the forum software here.

It is and has been on my list but it isn't something simple I can punch into the code without major rewrites.

Fair enough Marc. I like the new format and appreciate many of the new features. As someone who feels he takes the time to help people out, sometimes I get frustrated and want to be able to tell people to search certain topics but, without this feature it's not resonable in the Patty Wagstaff thread for example.

I understand the restaints your working under and just wanted an answer.

rest assured I fully understand the need for this feature and it is high priority. on long threads it is truly helpful.

there is a workaround though

go to the advanced search page and change the combine topics and replies drop down selector and also limit the results to just the forum you want. It will search all threads in that forum but come up with individual posts rather than the whole thread. Not perfect but better in the meantime than a search that pulls the whole thread

Hey that does seem to work, thanks. Now when someone asks,"what length standoffs should I use on my blah, blah, blah" I can tell them to, "just go to the advanced search page and change the combine topics and replies drop down selector and also limit the results to just the forum you want".

You can feed a man for a day or teach him to fish for his own search results......JC
