How on earth can I contact someone to straighten out the screw-up of my account status? I could find no place on the website with information on how to reach someone dealing with billing.

You click "Help Me" atop any page and then pick "billing issues" from the menu. If your question isn't covered, there is a "Trouble ticket" link shown. That way it will be private. Otherwise, you can post it here and we can look into it!
