I was the one to get it started on the OTHER site, but they didn't do it the way I suggested.......Have an UPCOMING EVENTS forum where the threads are already there. The threads would be a list of the 50 states. example
Upcoming Events.........click

Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arkanasas
California
Colorado
etc.. etc..

Well...this is of course easy in theory but there are some technical things I need to work out before listing these. For example...listing 50 states will jump the forum jump popup length by more than double! This will make that navigation tool much more cluttered so I have to narrow it down to just the main level "Upcoming Event" which will require a bit of programming to select just what is needed in that popup. Also, 50 more items will add 3 more seconds to the load speed of every page if I don't make the popup have only the top level of that forum.
Will work on this and try to get up as soon as humanly possible.

From: Cedar Rapids , IA,
I am against anything that would slow the site down.
Why list all the states and not just the ones that have events to be listed?
We also have the calendar.

3 seconds here, 3 seconds there. All sounds innocent until you wake up one day and it takes 20 seconds to load a page.
RCU does have an events calendar, and I really don't see an easier way of doing it. A month at a glance is a pretty efficent method of viewing events. Maybe require states be included along with the events that are being posted? This would allow users to view events one month at a time, and see the state it's in.
Perhaps a sticky at the top of each forum for a while announcing the event calendar?

This would also work if people would use the events calendar. Perhaps if each user would add the state or location before the title in the events calendar that would make it very easy and avoid perhaps a redundant forum?
Example: NY - WRAM Show...
Example: WI - Swap Meet....
Just put these headings before the event and than into the calendar. Simple and you can see all events at a glance.
I don't mind the dedicated per state/country forum as long as I can get it so it doesn't slow anything down or add clutter to the lists. Ideally a popup list above the calendar to view just those events that are in the location of your choice...For example you pick "NY" and the calendar filters out all events for just new york.

After giving it some more thought the full state list is a good idea but becomes a little daunting when you must also add the large amount of international regions/countries as well. This site is all about the RC "Universe" so to limit it to just the US states doesn't ecompass the other countries or regions in the world. Too limiting as this hobby crosses all geography.
Perhaps an events forum which has a more "open" format would be a solution. I'm not really sure but you can see the problem if you had a list of 300 or 400 forums by state and countries (provinces..) it can get out of hand.
If I make just an events forum one can search by state, country, region using the search feature since you can search all the forums or just specific ones. This would leave the field completely open for everybody on the planet. along with the calendar this may be the best solution but I am open still to ideas that may work well.
