I don't see any posts on politics or the war here. Is that now allowed?

Baghdad tonight?

Thanks for your question....Actually RCU is a RC site, and the membership has clearly stated that it be kept that way.

So, to answer your question, if you can legitmately bring RC into world news, do so . Otherwise, thanks for your understanding in advance, and keep RCU RC related only.

Default Why not an OT forum?

I can discuss politics, cars, and other subjects at my RC Club. I would like to find out what fellow modelers think about such things. Why not an Off Topic forum. That way others will not be bothered with off topic posts.

Although the topic of having an OT forum has been been hotly disscussed many times, the membership has voted no, instead of yes.
Perhaps you could post a Poll to see what the members are thinking now.

Rules at RCU are generally user driven.

I agree with the 'no'. I can get political rhetoric elsewhere.

But the rhetoric would be from non-modelers. If it is a seperate forum you don't have to ever see it. The latest post search could be set up to ignore that forum.

the problem with a off topic forum is that it can get ugly in there REAL quick.

if we did open a off-topic forum I would guess that 2 out of every 5 posts would be closed due to flame wars starting up. at least with RC related stuff we have something in common (like empty pockets due to all the new toys we just bought )

Default Vote NO

I can enter a vote now and it will be easy.. Where my heart goes
out to those who fight for our country I do not, in any way shape
or form, desire to have sex, religon, politics, thrown in my face in an
area of my life where I come to get away from the daily dredges..
I look at RCU for r/c related topics.. PERIOD
You wish to inform us of your new child, ok,, You wish to tell us of your new car to haul your planes, kewll, you wish to tell us about
the new kitchen table you got because you wrecked up the last one with CA, great.. But leave the damn world news OUT..
Thank you for allowing me to express my *OPINION*

I don't understand this. How would it be thrown in your face if its in a forum you never visit? You would never see it so you wouldn't even know about it.

While I suspect there would be more flame wars, it's only words. It would get my heart pumping now and then. I can get emotional about politics, moreso than our hobby. Though sometimes I can't understand how someone can stand behind a product like it's their religion or nationality.

With all intended respect.. If you want your heart to 'get pumping'
then find yourself a plane that is more than you can handle and
keep at it till you can master that one, then get another that is
even more of a challenge, and on and on.. At least that way the
rest of us can share and enjoy your trials and tribulations.
You are correct.. *I* would not visit a forum devoted to politics on
this board or any other board so it would not be 'in my face' ...

(if I wanna see ugly, I will look in a mirror..)

Actually that seems rather boring with what is going on in the world. Actually thinking of somehow getting more involved in politics. Not running for office. But getting involved with some group to promote conservative ideas. Also thinking of selling my RC stuff and quiting for a while.

But then I got one more project I want to do!

I come to this board to relax. If you want to talk politics, start a politic chat room.

Sorry, it doesn't have a place here.

We get enough blood-pumping arguments just on the topic of Futaba vs. JR

I'd hate to think of what would happen if we let members discuss politics, sex and religion.

Wanna have a good political debate? Try the AMA Discussions Forum.

Here's what I would love to see.

I know many people here including myself keep up with full-scale developments in aircraft. So why not have a General Aircraft or Full Scale Forum where you can discuss full scale aircraft or just general anything about aviation? And then also have one for cars, boats, helos, etc....

The story behind my name is, imo, extremely funny but I don't want to type the background out since it's related to full scale aircraft, not models.

I think your Futaba is sexy as hell.. Your JR is politically too far
left.. And I will pray you learn how to use ONE of them ...

FLYBOY.. Why in the heck would such a sexy little thing as
yourself you need to come here to relax..? Relax from what..?
Lord know the only thing you have to do in Montana is watch the
temps and snowflakes fall.. But having never lived in Montana,
I will not take issues to that being all there is to do there...

In theory an off-topic forum would be a great solution. Unfortunately I've had a bit of experience with that sort of thing. It doesn't just lead to flame wars within the specific forum, but tends to spill outside of itself as members develop personal grudges and scores to settle.

RCU has a wonderful focus--anything and everything RC. There are thousands of other message boards out there that focus on other topics such as full-scale, politics, religion, music, and what not. My advice is to visit one of those when you feel the desire to talk about those subjects. RCU is just one of the sites I actively participate in. For my other interests, I go elsewhere.

I'll let this run a bit longer to allow other people to give their perspectives, but I'll be moving it to the Suggestions forum a bit later this evening.

I vote no.

The question is "If no one voted for the SOB how come he got elected?"

Geez, I wish. Only had snow on the ground here this winter about 8 days total. Only got to fly on skis one time. I think I wore a heavy coat maybe 3 times. Unfortunately, I was in Texas and Washington DC at the time.

This is a RC content site ONLY! I mean no disrespect but if you want to talk OT then find some other site that already has such topics. I don't know how else to day that.

I definitely don't want to give up RC bandwidth to a bunch of chatters OT. There are definitely other places to go for that. I don't go to Microsoft.com to discuss firewood.

Sport_Pilot,

Why don't you create your own BLog? You should check out Blogger.com. As far as I can tell, anything goes over there.

Blogs can be fun!
