Default Searching for info within a thread

You all do a wonderful job with the RCUniverse site. I believe you have done more than any other organization to bring together those with similar RC interests and that is very good for our hobby. My hat's off to you. It's no small wonder that you have nearly 400,000 users.

I have a suggestion that, although I haven't a clue if it's possible, may be of benefit to your users. There are some threads whose posts have become so numerous that the thread's benefit is diminished because it is no longer practical to browse through the many pages to find a particular topic. I chose the " GROUP BUILD - Top Flite Giant Scale F4U Corsair" under "RC Warbirds and Warplanes" as a random example. There are now over 4,431 posts on this thread. Say someone wanted tips for setting up the retracts, they must go through as many as 178 pages to find the information they seek.

It would be very useful if the user could choose to view all 4,431 posts, rather than having to go through 178 individual pages, so that he could do a keyword search on all the posts in the thread.

Thanks much for all you do at RCUniverse.com.

Mike

Default RE: Searching for info within a thread

mirwin,
Thanks for the kind word about RCU. Several of the larger threads (including the one you referenced) have actually put together an index and placed it in the first post for that thread to help people find specific information within that thread. This has been an huge help in some of these bigger threads.

If you look at the bottom of any thread you will find two Google search boxes. These can be used to search both the specific thread you are on and for searching all of RCU. If you use the thread search box it will search the thread you are in for whatever specific search criteria you put in.

Hope this helps.

Ken,

Jeez, I feel like a puttz! I never saw that, but I'll sure enjoy it now.

Thanks,
Mike
