I leave for a while and come back to god only knows.... Now you have banners at the top which is starting to look like RCOnline but i can liive with it.
What i cant live with is the new picture layout you have. The pictures that are being posted now are so small you cant see them and underneath them it says to click for larger size. 9 out of 10 times the picture comes back smaller then the one on the original page.
You guys are making so many changes you are screwing everything up. People came to your site for the speed and the simplicity of it. STOP making so many changes.
Going back to RCO where i can actually see the pictures.

Sorry to hear about the problems you've been having.I've only come across the small picture problem a couple of times, but I dont think it's due to the changes made.As far as the banners go,this was actually a discussion among users before they were implemented. The overwhelming opinion was that everyone was fine as long as they were rc related, and did not take any bandwith away.If you'll notice, they are forum specific as much as possible.

I liked it better when the larger picture showed up in the post without having to click for larger picture. It may take a few more seconds to have the pics load, but it is not noticed, because I would be reading the text while they are loading.

I liked the larger pictures as well. I can understand with a slow connection it would be a pain, but for those who have cable/DSL/T1 connections it doesn't slow us down. Can this be setup to be a custom option in our control panels. Maybe have it default to off so that the server/bandwidth is not so so taxed as well.

Most anything is possible... but implementation isn't always immediate. Marc has a few health issues to contend with at the moment, but I assure you we'll address this in the next couple of days. Thanks for your comments.

I suppose it could be my computer screwing up with the pictures but as some other people chime in i think it isn't.
Again it's just my opinion and my .02$ but please go back to the way the pictures were.

Dan,
I'm not seeing the smaller version on any pictures except on those where the original was in fact uploaded from a smaller image than the thumbnail itself. There is no way that 9 out of 10 are showing up smaller as I tested this on 3 computers. Is anyone else seeing this behaviour even 10% of the time?
I have to leave the thumbnails until I can incorporate this as a user option. Too many modem users and between avatars and images some pages can take up to 2 minutes to load!
Changes have been made for the better and with user feedback in mind. It is with all these changes that this site has become better than RCO. The other reason for reducing to thumbnail size is to cut bandwidth. The site servers cost is running into the thousands range and the bulk of that are images that for the most part users have seen before so the thumbnail is there to save bandwidth and increase speed. As I said a user option will be in the works.

Hi,
Been on a high speed cable, I would be tempted to say go back to larger pictures, but the small one are fine with the click on for full size........but I did find many of them that were either the same size or smaller when click on......not due to my computer either, I believe it the way they were uploaded to the system.

the originals are never altered. it is not part of the process which makes the thumbnails...whatever is uploaded will be exactly what you see when you click on the full size option...sometimes it may be smaller and our default thumbnail is actually bigger...I've seen this myself here....so we actually end up giving you a bigger picture than the original!
hope that clears it up a little...
will be working on the broadband option soon enough...

About this picture size issue...
Perhaps (unless it's already discussed somewhere else) you could post the process for uploading pictures and what would be the correct size to start with. I'm not sure what programs other people are using, but photshop can resize an image very easily to any size, either pixel or measurement.
For people uploading pics- Make sure you upload the picture sized to what you want it to appear "after" someone clicks to enlarge it. The program (correct me if I'm wrong) will downsize it to a thumbnail automatically.

I'm one of those poor people with the slow connections, and im glad the pics are now thumbnails, that "lets see some fun flys" post was too much with full size, also my own "weird planes" was slow to load for me.
what does confuse me is how some people can post pics that take up the whole screen and even when i get my pics under the 70kb limit i still have to shrink them in physical size so they can be uploaded ( beyond the 650x650 size ) at least it seams that way for me.
I have seen a few pics that are not much bigger than the thumbnail, but i think its because thats how the user posted it.
I try and srink it down time and time again till it works, not just go stupid and micro size it first time it fails.
I'm going to try diffrent ways of how i display images so i can give people the best views.
Any chance of a link to a free online Jpeg cruncher in the reply screen that when clicked opens a new page, we crunch away, save to desktop, thats the pic we attach, everyones happy.
i've done some pretty big pics down to stupid small KB size files with very little loss of image quality. http://www.spinwave.com/crunchers.html
this is one i used, and i compleatly forgot about it until i write this DOH!
