I have an interest in starting some type of business, having been self employed 31 of the 40 years I've been out of school. I was laid off from my last job on January 27th 2009 and therefore have time to get into some research.
I have done some polls on RCU and at other similar forums. The problem with a poll as they are now offered here on RCU, is they can generally only be placed in one location that has a limited viewing audience.
Example: I am interested in maybe starting an R/C Kit manufacturing company. If I put a poll in kit building, the statistics would likely have an unrealistically positive outcome. If placed in ARF or RTF, I would expect the statistics to be unrealistically low. If placed
in R/C Scale Aircraft, the poll might be tilted towards only scale aircraft kits, etc., etc...
I'm proposing a new commercial Forum Topic which should be placed at the top of the list of Forum Topics, probably in every R/C venue. I.e. Radios, Cars, Planes, Electric, Helicopters, Boats, and Engines. These Forum Topics should be for attempting to determine statistics like I’m interested in obtaining. I would be willing to pay a fee, to place a poll in one of these locations, so it could be a profit center for RCU.
I’d suggest allowing comments by the poll takers, as this creates interest in participating. How the polls are now created and posted in the topic threads, might just be all that is needed.
Personally, I would enjoy going to and using this new topic thread and seeing what’s going on and have a feeling many other people would enjoy this, also. It would be a new way for people to give voice to the direction the hobby is headed!
Thank you for your time!

We actually built our own polling software and we can take a large audience sample sitewide for a fee. You would have to supply the questions and answers and we would drive traffic to the poll with a broad sweep of all interest areas to avoid skewing.

Marc, if this exists already, I have never participated in nor have I seen this poll exist anywhere on the site. I am interested, however, I want more information, where can I find this.

We have not run one for quite some time and we don't publicize it.
