Sorry for plaguing you with my advert for the Mod; I deliberately kept it short because I knew there would be folks who'd see it more than once. But I frequent several threads, and I don't feel it's unreasonable to share with my friends on each thread.
I'm doing what makes me happy; this is the point of a Hobby. I love to tinker; I don't need to be flying all the time. I am slow building; that's my nature. I try to learn from others rather than make the same mistakes myself, and I pass on what I've learned from them. I'm sorry; I just don't understand why that seems to offend.
I know of folks who have multiple Taranii that use them for Animatronics work; are they somehow defective because they never fly?
I guess you will be happy once I start work again; as you suggest, I probably won't have time for this stuff anymore. Enjoy your mnem-free forums.
Peace; the real world beckons.
mnem out.

As for the suggestion, it was a light hearted dig that we want to see you fly.

Yah, they kinda suck on several levels!
Lurgy turned out to be allergies so back on top now.
Tragically no hobby projects to work on today AND it phreakin' rained all day!
Work thru the week and since wifey is going on "girls weekend" to theme parks so's I'm flying club bound ALL weekend!
Hope to "re maiden" my BIG T-28 with flaps and retracts!

Now that the moooolah is going to be coming in it's time to get into the air!
I just realized.
When mnem re enters the work force the total volume of the Internets services will be reduced by 1/3!!

K... maybe I was bein' a bit prrickly; this whole " gettin' ready fer a new job " thing has had me somewhat overloaded.
Speaking of which, I survived my first day; got my company laptop, company tools, company electronic leash. Spent the day getting myself all in the system; nothing worse happened to me than a sinus headache, which I would have suffered no matter where I happened to be.
Yay me?
As for the "New" Horus... Here's the alleged Specifications:
Horus X12D
FEATURES Aluminum CNC base gimbals with high resolution magnetic angle sensors
High resolution IPS screen (800*480), touch operation supported
Bluetooth 4.0
Voice broadcast and recognition
Inbuilt 9-axis sensor, do everything you can imagine
* Inbuilt GPS and WiFi
FrSky OS installed, easy for beginners and expansible for advanced users
Support open source firmware, such as openTX
*Inbuilt GPS and WiFi might be applied on certain configuration only.
*The hardware, software, configuration, etc are subject to change at the sole discretion of FrSky Electronic Co., Ltd.
FrSky reserves the right to make any alternations without further notice. Please refer to the final production unit.
What this suggests to me is that we may get all or none of these features... I'm not going to hold my breath. And I'm not going to be surprised if this:
is still what really ships. This new material is clearly in response to market pressure from the FlySky I-10 released a few months ago; which I just received an eMail from NitroPlanes about a couple days ago. It appears FlySky is trying to go mainstream.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8u5T0a4OvU It's got lots of bling, but it feels cheesy just looking at it; worse even than the 9XR/9XR Pro. (Even with my RGB Backlight Mod! ) The touch interface is clearly an afterthought; the GUI is optimized for a rotary encoder and they just added a software scroller to it. Meh.
Just between me and you and the lampshade; I'll bet you one or both of the "dual power buttons" was supposed to be a rotary encoder like the Spektrum. I wonder if they got threatened with a lawsuit for infringement of trade dress IP? Maybe that's what's holding up the Horus?

Grrrr!
Here's a boner I managed to pull today!
So's here's the deal. I get out to the club this AM and moving my 200mw VTX around too close to my FS filter caused instant interference when spun up. While moving **** around and testing I COOK my 30USD VTX! So's I want to test my FS VTX on my Q450 so I move anteenas around and end up NOT knowingly hook two females up on my FS VTX and COOK IT! ****! So's I pack them up, go home and buy a 500MW at securitycam 2000 and RE buy a 30 USD mini. Grrr ****! OH well, it's only money!

Welp.... guess I need to eat my words. b; could you please pass the ketchup?
Honestly, I like the looks of the E a lot better; though I like the idea of the CNC gimbals on the Horus enough to put up with its ummm... inferior design aesthetic. You know... if I can afford it. And if it really ships. Like... before my son graduates.

We'll see how it goes.
Believe it or not upgrading isn't that important to me and the way I understand it they are kinda shooting to a different market.
My Taranis will do WAAAAY more than I'll ever be able to enjoy!
mnem-since you don't peruse my viddys I'll post my meanness to you here:
"Since you've been gainfully employed the total volume of the internet has gone down by 1/3!"
(ouch)
Hope you are enjoying your new gig!
ALl the best!

Yeah, there's no doubt the Horus is their "INFINITI"brand; I hope they don't get a swelled head and abandon us mere mortals all together.
Just curious... when you say volume; do you mean quantity or loudness?

Well now don't be too hard on the mental plebs as we've gone this far we might as well explain it to the non Mensa crowd...
I know a joke isn't as funny when you have to explain it but you can get a "double" if you let me in on what you mean.....
I'll await your answer after you get home from work!
b
EDIT: In case it's obvious and I don't get it I'll pick "quantity" as in overall total amount of band width....

In keeping with my "warts and all" policy THIS is what happens when you "think" you have your crap in a pile and all your rates programmed in to your radio properly.
It is currently glued back together and will re maiden in a month.
THIS is exactly why I won't get an actual pilots license!!!

Welp, my minimalist "Flying Brick" Silver G10 Build is complete; highlights include 2 gram RX, Modded KK2 FC, super-tidy-fied wiring and all-stainless button-head hardware.
KK2 FC has clear PVC shrink-wrap screen protector which also neatly resolves the well-known "Floppy LCD Syndrome" associated with these FCs and modded display with a 45 degree tilt for enhanced viewability between frame layers. Not seen here is a 10mm piezo buzzer element soldered direct to the output pins.
This view shows 2 gram (including wiring) FRSky VD5M Micro-RX; I had it laying around from another project, so I decided to leverage its strengths into this build. Here you can see the angled LCD and FC mounted using 5mm wide strips of HK's 4mm mounting foam. "Keep It Simple, Stupid" is the key principle here; wires are all tidied up with 5mm clear polyolefin heat-shrink to keep with the silver-black color scheme.
"KISS" continues here; 4mm thick x 3mm ID AL spacers from AluminumSpacers.com (Seriously. ) keep things nice & snug (actually, I had some 5/32" thick ones lying around which I drilled out to 3mm); making the ESCs thinner by recovering with thin & light PVC heat-shrink after soldering instead of thick polyolefin they came with allows me to eliminate zip-ties in favor of a little servo tape. You can see my nice big Velcro battery holder here as well, which serves to cover up the openings full of power wiring spaghetti.
I remember telling one RCG member I was looking at 250 grams with this setup; clearly I underestimated a little. I toyed with the idea of trying to trim a little more, but the only place I could think of was to eliminate 1/2 of the motor & arm screws (15grams possible) and make the power wire stubby-short (5 grams possible); I had already cut every other wire to custom length to fit everything inside the lower frame, and I had already eliminated the 8 spacers/4 screws & nuts at the corners of the inner frame. In the end I decided to live with the 20 grams & keep hull integrity at 100%.
I have a number of batteries I want to try with this setup; my biggest/heaviest brings the AUW to 660 grams. A bit on the portly side, but still well within the normal operating weight range of these things loaded with FPV gear. If I had the budget, I might rebuild with AL screws just to see how much less I could make it. I have 6030 & 6045 props to experiment with.
Here's the bottom with that big battery installed; you can see the stainless button-head motor screws and 1 gram 3/8" wide Velcro ties. A Flying Brick, sho 'nuff.
I'm very pleased with the results; I haven't been this happy with a build since my Dynam Peaks. Everything went together well; mostly just being patient for the odd bits & pieces to come in the mail. The only real pain in the whole build was the 2mm x 6mm button-head screws for the motors; they use a 1.4mm Allen wrench which I had to make by grinding down a 1.5mm wrench with my Dremel.
All that remains now is for me to find my USBasp and flash the latest Steveis' Firmware (so I can use it turned sideways) and a little tweaking in the Model Profile on my Taranis. I think this is a good place to stop until next weekend; I have oodles more photos and a complete build log to put together some time soon.

mnem,
That thing is beautiful!
I can't wait to see it in the air!
I'm NOT niggling here when I as this, have you flown the KK2 board previously?
Amazingly forgiving and with your experience with little quads I see success in your future!
All the best!
