The stock 430l motor is good if you buy it with the kit. The ESC is Ok, but it will do for a while. Go with a 401 gyro, hs 65 servos because they fit and the arms line up perfectly. Futaba 9650 digital on the tail. If I read your post correctly, you are buying a Transmitter too. I would go with the futaba 9C. It has some really nice heli features, and you can see the throttle and pitch curves. This really helps you to understand what is going on. If you have been flying a blade CP, then you will have no problem flying the TREX. You are going to love the Trex if you have been flying a blade. TREX is a million times better IMO.

I agree with all above except you might want to consider the DX6 radio. I just bought one and it is simple to set up, works great and you will never have to worry about frequency control again.
The other plus is no long antenna leads.

The futaba 9C is seriously expensive.........how does anyone justify buying one of those for a mini heli like the T-Rex?

Bruckner Hobbies has the 9CA (airplane model with all the heli programming, too) on special for $249
My justification was easier, as I have a growing number of fixed wing models, from my 1 oz Dutchman, to my 8 foot Telemaster (electric). The 9C has fantastic capabilities for them all.
And, when I do make Tx recommendations, I try to say something along the lines of "I love my 9C, and JR has some great models too".

Well I have an 8103, wish I had a 9303, and I didn't buy it for the T-Rex. I bought it for my Raptor 50. Course within weeks I had retired all my 6 channel radios in favor of the 8103. It's nice to use the same Tx for all of my models, 2 helis and 4 planes.
The 8103 is cheaper than the three 6 channel radios I had previously purchased anyway and with the increased features I wish I had bought it sooner. I really like all the mixing I can do for my planes with the 8103.
The 6102 is a nice radio, I have used it and my buddy uses it for his Rex, but it pales in comparison to my 8103. My 8103 makes setup easier as well IMO.

Yeah, I have an 8103, and a 6102. The 8103 is for my Raptor 60V2, and the 6102 is for my T-rex.
I completely understand why people woud get the high end radios if they fly more than one model etc, but for someone just starting out with only one heli, or a fleet of helis that are no more complex than the Rex, I think the good old 6 channel 6102 is a wicked tranny. My 8103 is really nice, but it has many unecessary features for my Rex.
I have nothing against the Futabas......I know that they are some awesome kit too........just a little pricey for someone who's not sure that they're even going to commit to the hobby IMHO. :-)
