Default tail issue...

Hi all, well I have a T-rex XL and i have problem with the gyro (i think), the gyro is a JR500T, the problem is that has tail hunting. In the radio Futaba 8UHP i have the gain in 30%, the lowest gain and if I pt more gain the tail hunting goes worst; the servo horn is in the closest position, in other words, it's at 5mm.

The servo rudder is a Hitec HS-50. The linkage is very soft. In the T-Rex I have a Gyro JR500T and has an Align motor, Align speed controller and GWS receiver.

I'm loosing my mind guessing what it is!!

I previously had a Raptor 50 and now flying a Raptor 60 with this gyro and I never hade this problem before, please I need help!!!

Replace the Hitec HS-50 with another servo and see if it makes a difference. The HS-50 seems ot work okay, but it doesn't seem to last very long on the tail rotor.

Try a hs 56 or a hs 81, they both have a little more torqe to handle trex's tail.

I recently had this problem after changing the gyro on mine to a G500t. Put the ball link on the farthest hole from center (on the beefiest horn that comes with the HS50) and it will probably go away. I had mine on the middle one just for an experiment to see if it was better or worse and discovered it was worse. The G500T is a great gyro bt it needs to have the proper servo throw to work well. I don't even get any tail kick on a hard climbout in this configuration and my gain is in the vicinity of 35-40.

I've been trying to upgrade to a 9650 for weeks but it seems there is a national shortage of them in the UK.

I had an HS50 on the tail and it performed beautifully, solid lock, no drift or twitching. But the gears just aren't up to the job. It lost a tooth on the final output leaving a dead spot right at servo centre...
I had a spare HS55 (slower) so I put it in to keep flying. Worked, but gyro gain had to be reduced from 70% to about 40% to remove tail wag.
Yesterday a new HS56 arrived. The carbonite gears are supposed to be 4 times stronger than standard, so we'll see how long it lasts before I can break it...

I'm well practised at breaking things.

Karyn.
