4 ping pong balls or pratice golf balls
2 1/4" wood dowels or carbon fiber rod
and a few zip ties and your in business.
if not..
eflite $9. They have snap fit pieces that snap to your skids (but still need thicker long carbon rod.)

I used ping pong balls too, but with 1/8 wood dowels. If your looking for durablity, you can go with a larger diameter, but after a few flights I didn't need them. A couple small pieces of fuel tubing will hold the balls in place. Costs only a couple dollars.

After some research, I'm going with a couple of 1/8 inch carbon fiber rods from Tower Hobbies and I've got an extra training gear set from a Blade CP. I'll cut the rods into 4 pieces, open up the holes in the orange ping-pong balls and build up a set. I was hoping something was commercally available but obviously not. Hmmmm, maybe this is something I can produce and sell. Hmmmmm

FYI -- I just installed a set of e-flite EFLH1205 training gear designed for the BCX series. I simply mounted the plastic hub with velcro to the botton plate of my REX 450SA and inserted the 4 ping pong ball posts into to the hub and through the main gear of the rex and it works great ----- It provides much needed stability for a novice like myself -- I can hover now with additional confidence !!! Its worth the effort.

I bought 2 x 4mm carbon rods (1m length) from the hobby shop and ground a "U" in the middle of both of them with an angle grinder.
Grind it only half way through the rod and about 4-5mm wide. This allows you to cross the two rods at the center without one rod being higher than the other.
I then simply cable tied the 2 rods together in the center where notched and then attached the 4 rods to the landing gear with cable ties - as per std approach everyone uses.
I didn't even bother with ping-pong balls - it's up to you, the rods are more likely to stick in the ground at angles, especially on grass, so it's up to you if you
want the balls or not... My setup was really easy and no worries about making any sort of joiner in the middle...
This method the rods stick out quite horizontally at nearly half a meter (which is great) rather than down at angles - which I like better as the heli is actually resting on the landing gear and not the rods.
I guess you could do the same with wooden rods but the carbon ones are better I think and probably lighter...
It's probablt one of the cheapest setup at $13 AU (approx $10US) and that's at expensive hobby shop prices...
Best still - if they dod split or break - just get a new rod!!!
