does anyone know what video camera would be best suited for mounting on a 450SE? i've seen some nice aerial footage before, but there was no mention of what camera they used.

I saw a wicked setup on raidentech for $55, color video with audio, and includes everything you need except a video camera or video recorder to record the video on.

Take a look at this site! records 6 mins decent video, all self contained, weighs less than 3/4 ounce, and downloads via usb cable which also recharges the internal battery. I'm getting one for sure!

Thank you for that link W4RCF, I,ve seen that cam before but couldn,t remember where. I've looked around for edvr's and found one comparable but with less resolution. This has got to be the best edvr for weight, resolution, and storage. Needless to say, it's on the list.

btw talking about video cams... do you guys know if a 2.4ghz wireless cam would interfere with my DX6?

Yes, it will jam your signal. I too looked that route and contemplated going 1.2ghz with less distance, but why deal with transmition and glitching video when you can strap on a edvr and download the files into your computer?

i've tried using a Panasonic Lumix FX-01 camera on video mode set at 10fps(frame per sec) looks o.k but still need to work on reducing vibration, headspeed and tail wag.

i'm thinking about doing the hack of the cvs one-time-use video camera.

I just did the CVS Camera stuff. Not for my trex but it's light enough to carry one easily. I've removed it from the case, wired a couple record/delete switches and power so it runs off the RX for power. I'm planning to take up in my .46 plane on Saturday. If the video comes out good I'll post a link to it. For $29, it does 20 min of 30fps video at some odd resolution like 384x288 but I'm taking it to 640x480 for Saturday. If I can get ahold of a scale I'll weigh it.

It's worth checking out.

I just flew my black widow system today. I have some vibration to deal with, but the 450SA has no trouble carrying the load. This is a camera (400 line) with a 200mw transmitter (2.4GHz). I have a 4 cell NiMh pack for the camera and transmitter.

one more question, will the 2.4 Ghz setup interfere with a PCM radio? after doing for nosing around, i like the wireless setup the best. thanks a bunch guys.

2.4 GHz will not interfere with a PCM system. PCM is 72 MHz. Beyond that, a 2.4 GHz video system should not interfere with a spektrum system either, even though they are the "same" frequency range, they will be different specific frequencies. I would recommend that you power up the camera first, so the spektrum system, will see the interference, and avoid those frequencies. If anyone has actually tried this and had it completely jam their spektrum system, than I have a hard time imagining that they would work well in densely populated areas, due to cordless phones, wireless networks, and hundreds of other random crap which operate on 2.4 GHz.

Congrats on the piro. I remember my first piro, I know the feeling. I'll probably be going inverted in the next few weeks for the first time... I expect I'll be revisited by that feeling.

In some cases a high power 2.4GHz system can cause problems with a 72MHz system. My Falcon 3D did not work when I tried to use the same video system I use on my T-Rex (200Mw 2.4GHz) and it was on 72MHz. When I moved the camera forward (almost to the tip of the nose) it did work without a problem. The Futaba Rx on my T-Rex does not seem to have a problem with it. I have heard that 200Mw or greater 2.4GHz systems WILL cause problems with Spektrum systems. They present too much power, too close to the Rx and cause wide-band problems that can't be avoided by frequency hopping (RX Desense/Overload). That is why I went with a 72MHz system over the Spektrum.

It's not on a TREX though. It's on my Pulse XT nitro plane. It's mounted about 4-5 inches behind the engine so we couldn't eliminate all the vibratinos. Probably not much of an issue on a well balanced trex. I really like the camera. It's cheap and you don't have to worry about range or line of sight or noise like the wireless stuff I've seen. I just take my laptop and connect the camera to pull the video off and view it right at the airfield (everyone loves to come watch it). I'm not sure how high we got in this video. This was our 3rd try at some video. I'm pretty pleased so far.

There's maybe half a dozen wires to solder to get this set up.

Well, I traded my Futaba 72MHz setup for a DX6 and my 2.4GHz camera works just fine! The 200mw transmit antenna is about 2" from my RX antennas and I get zero interference. I took a couple of videos tonight and the camera worked OK but I did have some noise/range problems on the video signal but no control problems. The battery on my camera setup was a bit low so I know the power level was down. The T-Rex passed the range check at low power out on the Tx at 30 Ft and flew fine. I'll post my latest video later tonight.

Here it is... It looks much better in it's native DV25 format, this is compressed to 1Mb/s with WM9.

Hey MattMaynard, can you post some pics, maybe some instruction or links on how to do the CVS mod you did. I'd be interested to try it on my HDX.
